I've been eager to catch Cooties ever since it was first announced. An elementary school cafeteria virus turns the students into zombies, but folks who have been through puberty can't contract the condition so the teachers are left to defend themselves. It's a brilliant concept!

Cooties debuted at Sundance in 2014 where it was quickly snatched up by Lionsgate, but apparently directors Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion have done a good deal of re-cutting since. If this trailer is any indication, it looks as though the duo is still on the right track because this promo for the film is absolutely brimming with energy and suggests it'll be well worth the wait.

Check out the Cooties trailer for yourself below. The film stars Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson, Jorge Garcia, Leigh Whanell, Jack McBrayer and Nasim Pedrad, and is set to hit theaters on September 18th.

Here's the official synopsis for Cooties via the Stanley Film Festival:

From the minds of Leigh Whannell (co-creator of SAW and INSIDIOUS) and Ian Brennan (co-creator of GLEE), produced by SpectreVision, COOTIES is a horror comedy with unexpected laughs and unapologetic thrills. When a cafeteria food virus turns elementary school children into killer savages, a group of misfit teachers must band together to escape the playground carnage. The film stars Elijah Wood (THE HOBBIT, LORD OF THE RINGS), Rainn Wilson (THE OFFICE), and Alison Pill (THE NEWSROOM) as teachers who fight to survive the mayhem while hilariously bickering in an uncomfortable love triangle on the worst Monday of their lives.
