Focus World has released the first trailer for the indie thriller Cop Car, and the moral of the story seems to be, “Don’t mess with creepy guys who have mustaches.” The film follows two young boys who stumble across an abandoned cop car and decide to take it on a joy ride. However, when the county sheriff discovers them, brutal consequences ensue. The movie actually looks quite good, with a tone in line with a Coen Brothers film and a menacing performance by Kevin Bacon. It’s a bit like Stand By Me, only with a horror movie twist.

Ford and directed by Watts, the movie also stars Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim, James Freedson-Jackson, and Hays Welford. Cop Car will be released in select theaters on August 7th and hits VOD and Digital HD on August 14th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Cop Car:

Kevin Bacon (The Following, HBO’s Taking Chance, Mystic River) stars in director Jon Watts’ delightful throwback thriller Cop Car.  When two good-natured but rebellious young boys (James Freedson-Jackson and Hays Wellford) stumble across an abandoned cop car hidden in a secluded glade they decide to take it for a quick joyride.  Their bad decision unleashes the ire of the county sheriff (Kevin Bacon) and leads to brutal consequences.
