Two bits of casting news for you today: one from a Canadian, dark comedy, indie pic while the other is from the fifth installment in a big budget horror franchise. First up, is the addition of Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) to director Peter Wellington’s Cottage Country. The pair star as a couple vacationing at a family cottage where Todd (Labine) plans to propose, but is derailed by the arrival of his lazy brother and his hippie girlfriend.
In less quaint and subtle cinema, the role of Leon Kennedy will be portrayed by Johann Urb (2012) in Resident Evil: Retribution. This is the latest addition to the cast of the fifth installment in the video game/horror franchise starring Milla Jovovich. The news of his casting comes via her Twitter account when she said, “AND if u checked out my vid yesterday from the table reading u wld hve noticed Johann Urb! He is our Leon Kennedy n looks jst like him BTW!!”

News of the Cottage Country casting comes by way of THR. The film also stars Daniel Petronijevic (Falling Skies) and Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher) as the aforementioned troublesome brother and girlfriend. Cottage Country, written by Jeremy Boxen (Endgame) marks a return to the big screen for director Wellington, who is best known for his TV drama Rookie Blue and TV comedy Slings and Arrows. Slated for release in 2012, Cottage Country is shooting in Toronto and Muskoka, Ontario through the end of October.
The addition of Urb, via Daily Dead, confirms the rumor that Leon Kennedy will indeed be featured in Resident Evil: Retribution. If you missed Urb’s brief appearance in 2012, you can see him even more briefly in a video posted by Jovovich here. Fans of the series, feel free to comment on the casting decision.
Resident Evil: Retribution also features a return of some fan favorites, including Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine, Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo and Shawn Roberts as Albert Wesker. You can see them all in theaters on September 14th, 2012.
