Could Natalie Portman Be the Next Lois Lane?

by     Posted 4 years, 2 days ago

In more Superman linked news, Moviehole is reporting that Natalie Portman might be the new Lois Lane in the reboot of the Superman franchise. The common thread to this rumor, as with current details surrounding Superman: The Man of Steel, is visionary director Darren Aronofsky. Portman and Aronofsky recently collaborated on the director’s upcoming thriller, Black Swan, which has been attracting buzz like the Tea Party attracts middle aged Caucasian women with political aspirations.

While just a rumor, it seems logical given Aronofsky and Portman’s recent work together and Portman’s past connection to the franchise. I’m certain Portman could excel in the role and be a vast improvement over past celluloid incarnations of Lois Lane. Though, would it be beneath her considerable acting chops to play a damsel in distress? Black Swan swoops into theaters with a limited initial release beginning December 1st, 2010.

i may like Natalie as an actress but i think she’d make a terrible choice as lois lane… Nobody has embodied the character better then Erica Durance here’s hoping she’s makes the leap to the big screen in Man Of Steel

Seriously, you Smallville fanboys have no idea what a Superman movie should be like. Smallville is “Superman-inspired” bullshit.

first of all im a fangirl. and secondly i’ve seen every superman movie ever made as well as I’ve been reading the comic since i was a little girl so trust when i say I know what i’m talking about it. And if you don’t watch Smallville or her portrayal of the character one that by the way DC execs have gone on record to say they love then don’t comment.

agree with you and if natalie portman gets the role can you say kate bolsworth part 2 because that is what it would be.it would damage the movie.she may be good in starwars but this is superman and she would suck.please don’t get her i don’t want sr 2.

that’s exactly what i think didn’t they learn from the epic fail that was SR?!!?

I’m interested in this incredible writing style of yours! Tell me more?

Well if Smallville is bullshit, then why has it been on for 10yrs & is the longest running US Scifi series to date. I love Smallville & I think that the show is amazing. I totally agree with athena606. I love Natalie but she just doesn’t seem right for Lois Lane. Erica is the best & should have a chance of playing Lois on the big screen with Tom Welling as Superman.

you are right and smallville could of gone two more years if they did not bring lana back in season 8 that arc killed smallville let me tell you how you know how they say the superman movies in 70′s and 80′s was great some peaple say only one and two were but three went down and some peaple say it was because lois and clark made love is what mad it go down i don’t think so i think it was they made clark go back to being a boy again with lana and just made clark forget about lois from one movie to the next i just hope the next superman movies can look at the past and see it was lana and not lois and clark make’n love.so please stay away from lana if you hav’t to give her pete but for heaven sake keep her away from clark or it will surely fail big time.

Yeah Jim, you just made a big mistake. I bet you loved Superman Returns too… Smallville is a tv show, yes. But the talents they were able to get their hands on, have demonstrated to be amazing personifications of those characters we know and love from the comics. In this case, like Athena0606 pointed out: Erica Durance. She is favorited by most comic fans as well as the big tycoons too. Your ignorance speaks for itself, so i will cut this short and stop entertaining it.

I’m not faulting Smallville because it’s a TV show. I’m faulting it for being a Superman teen drama/soap opera.
Did I say I liked Superman Returns? What an assumption.

Smallville will always be separate from any other Superman properties for good reason. And plenty of shitty shows last for 10+ years.

Jim, Smallville is not a “shitty” show or “Superman-inspired bullshit”. Even its TV professional critics over the years don’t say it’s “shitty”. Further, it brings a lot of nuances to the Superman mythos that you won’t get in a movie or comics. Without some of the drama created by making the show about a young Clark struggling with his powers and their implications, you’d have nothing but an action show that would not have lasted 10 years. The beauty of Smallville is that it isn’t just a sci-fi show, or just an action show, or just a teen show, or just a family-oriented drama, or just any one thing. And it’s grown into even more things since the beginning concept, and done that very well.

As for Erica, you need to get your facts straight. People who know Superman, though comics and movies, people who are professionals and big shots, all think that Erica is a great Lois Lane, and most think she’s the best ever.

Superman (the comics) and all comics in general have never been nothing but action. That’s not why Smallville is terrible.
Have I seen Erica’s performance as Lois Lane? Nope. Mostly because everytime I turn on the show or try to watch an episode I end up turning it off because either the dialogue or story line or special effect is laughably and hilariously terrible.

A little sidebar fact Jeph Loeb (Eisner Award Winner) has been a DC comic writer for decades pushed for Erica Durance to be cast as Lois Lane if that’s not an endorsement then I don’t know what it. As for Smallville again if you don’t watch it don’t comment on something you don’t know anything about. Because it moved behold the concept of it being “a teen drama” as you were commenting a long time ago.

      • Josue_can

Funny, you still didnt say you didn’t love Superman Returns. LOL I’m not a teen, and non of the actors are teens, so I doesnt make any sense. You probably call it that cause you read someone else call it that and thought it was a cool insult. Smallville has always been a drama. But like every other show, (“House,” “24,” “LOST,”) it has a love story. But that doesnt make it/them a teen drama/soap opera does it?. You are entitled to your opinion, but when you said “us Smallville fanboys” you included me in the mix, and I don’t appreciate it.

      • http://twitter.com/grapenutsrbt Jim Goff

I never said I don’t like a good love story/drama. I’ve really tried watching it. The overly dramatic, hackneyed cheesy plots and dialoge tells me this is nothing but a soap opera with a Superman skin tacked on top.
The target audience is teens, not that it has teens in it. You don’t even know what I’m talking about to begin with.

      • Bigge3021

Are you serious? Come on!! Whatever problems you have with Smallville, it’s still a “Superman” show that even there worst episode is still WAY better than that crapfest of Superman Returns. That movie was bullshit!! If Nolan gave Erica Durance an opportunity to audition for the Lois Lane role, she will knock it out of the park like she always does on Smallville. I like Natalie Portman as a actress but this fanboy’s Number 1 choice for the Lois Lane role is Erica Durance.

    • sense11

Never going to happen, no actor from Smallville, SP or the Adventures of Lois & Clark will be in The Man of Steel

      • Anonymous

well that’s for the PTB to decide but I think ED & TW would make for an excellent choice where they given the chance ;)

  • wingster

The SR Lois was well written…just not acted. She was resourceful and smart.
Portman could bring the right attitude into it.

I don’t think anyone on SV should be in this movie.

    • Anonymous

i disagree about her being well written in SR sorry but that lois was completely out of character that whole story line was awful

      • sense11

        Agreed

      • kevin

ed is the best lois lane ever I am just sick to death of these big time superman ptb
trying to get a five foot actress to play with a six and half foot actor.it is very bad cast’n.and what i like about ed is at least she new some stuff about the comics before she started on smallville and that makes her the best for the superman movie.not some actress that can’t come up to superman’s S.it is like crap’n on the superman mythos.

  • Bogie

What the hell is with all the flat chested curve free Lois’ in the movies? I think the Smallville Lois has been the best to be in any live action Superman.

She can’t be Louis! She’s Jane Foster! I actually don’t really care about this, as long as it’s a different universe (which it obviously is). I just don’t like Superman.
