Charles Darwin is not one of the most controversial people of all time. His defining work, “On The Origin of the Species”, is one of the most controversial books of all time (because, to quote GOB, “I heard the jury’s still out on…science.”). But if you forget that the book is different than the man, then perhaps you can take the drama from his controversy and use it as a hook for his biopic.
That looks to be what “Creation” is trying to do with this trailer. I’m not saying that Darwin’s life was dull, but it definitely looks like a drama played with modern understanding. I’m sure Darwin was aware of the explosiveness of his claims, but you can feel the modern “debate” at the edges of the frame and it looks like all hope for subtlety may rest with the gifted performers at the center of the film, Paul Bettany as Darwin and Jennifer Connelly as his wife Emma.
Check out the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments section. “Creation” hits theatres in the UK on September 25th and probably never here in the states because it’s TOO CONTROVERSIAL!
