The weird, wonderful and always under-utilized gifts of actor Crispin Glover will soon be on display in Tim Burton's adaptation of " Alice in Wonderland." According to The Hollywood Reporter Glover will play The Knave of Hearts – the inspiration for the only passage of Lewis Carroll's book that I know fully by heart:

"The Queen of hearts, she made some tarts

All on a summer day:

The Knave of Hearts he stole those tarts,

And took them quite away!"

Rattling off this little ditty isn't nearly as impressive as reciting something like "Jabberwocky," I am well aware – too bad that the endless hours of "Brady Bunch" repeats I watched as a child left my brain with only limited space for poetry and junk.

In Carroll's book, the Knave goes on trial for his theft and is subsequently defended by Alice. He seems fairly indifferent to the legal proceedings – which makes Glover an ideal choice for the role. After all, the man has been fairly indifferent to his career for years now… how else do you explain something like "The Wizard of Gore?"

But perhaps I'm being unfair here. An actor's got to eat, right? Especially one that's trying to fund a myriad of other pursuits: Glover's bio also lists him as a painter, author, musician, and collector of 'esoterica'… I'm not sure what that last one is, exactly, but I frankly would not be surprised if Tim Burton hired him for that reason alone.
