It’s time to meet the new big bad that’ll terrorize Green Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and the Legends of Tomorrow team: The Dominators. The alien race from DC comics will be the villains in the four-way crossover event between the CW series that will air during the upcoming 2016-17 TV season.
These aliens are of a violent race marked by the red circles on their foreheads. In the comics, they were interested in humanity’s genetic potential and the manipulation of the meta-gene that resided in most superhumans. Speaking with THR, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said of the TV iteration of the characters:
“We’re taking inspiration from a DC crossover from the late 1980s known as Invasion!, which featured an alien race called The Dominators, who’d previously vexed the Legion of Superheroes. We’re using cutting-edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”
What’s interesting about the inclusion of The Dominators is that they were very similar to the aliens of The Reef in Young Justice. The second season of the DC animated series saw these beings invade earth under a friendly guise, when they were really kidnapping humans with dormant meta-genes to conduct experiments and possibly create an army of meta-humans to use against earth.
Vandal Savage was the first big villain to incorporate all of the CW heroes on Legends of Tomorrow, but now that he’s been handled, it’s time to up the ante. Plus, the network added Supergirl to its roster after the show was dropped by CBS.
The Flash season 3 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m., Arrow season 5 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m., Supergirl season 2 premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
