Up-and-coming Australian actor Dan Ewing (Home and Away) has booked a key role opposite Dylan O'Brien in the Paramount Players movie Monster Problems, Collider has exclusively learned.

Michael Matthews (Five Fingers for Marseilles) is directing from a script by Brian Duffield and Matthew Robinson, and Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are producing for 21 Laps.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with carnivorous fauna and giant monsters, the coming-of-age sci-fi story follows a young man (O'Brien) who must travel many miles over dangerous terrain to find a girl he fell in love with over a two-way radio.

Jessica Henwick (Marvel's Iron Fist) will co-star as the mysterious girl of his dreams, while MCU actors Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt will play a duo who cross paths with the protagonist over the course of his romantic journey.

Ewing will play Cap, who's described as a perfect human specimen -- all the best parts of Thor and Bear Grylls, with a dash of southern charm. Judging by the full-body photo in this article, he strikes me as a strong fit for the role.

Like Chris Hemsworth, Naomi Watts, Isla Fisher and the late Heath Ledger before him, Ewing made a name for himself on the long-running Aussie soap Home and Away. He also stars in the Occupation film franchise, and played Dillon the Black RPM Ranger on the TV series Power Rangers RPM.

The 33-year-old actor hails from the appropriately-named Manly, a beachside suburb of northern Sydney in the state of New South Wales, and grew up playing basketball. Ewing is represented by Benchmark Creative Management and LINK Entertainment.

Paramount Players' upcoming releases include this summer's Dora and the Lost City of Gold starring Isabela Moner as Nickelodeon sensation Dora the Explorer, as well as the John Cena film Playing with Fire and The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, both of which are slated to hit theaters next year.
