Back in 2010, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to adapt the manga Bleach into a feature film with Peter Segal (Get Smart) onboard to produce. We haven’t really heard much about the project since then, but now that they’re re-thinking their adaptation of Akira, the studio is moving forward with Bleach. Variety reports that Wrath of the Titans scribe Dan Mazeau has been set to write the screenplay and Segal is producing with an eye toward possibly directing.

The story centers on a teenager with the ability to see ghosts whose family is attacked by a malevolent lost soul called a Hollow. Once attacked, the teenager gains the ability to hunt Hollows and then “dedicates his life to protecting the innocent and helping tortured souls find peace.” Production on Akira was halted to address script concerns so it’ll be interesting to see how the studio develops this separate manga property.

….son of a bitch. Obviously I’m not a seasoned writer, but I wrote a script for a Bleach movie 4 years ago that I had always wanted to send to Viz to try and drum up interest for a live action movie. You snooze you lose I suppose.
