First Look at Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN

Director Steven Spielberg has two movies coming out next month, but he’s currently busy prepping his next effort, Lincoln. The high-profile pic has been in the works for years, and Spielberg is finally set to start production early next year. Set in the lead as our nation’s 16th President is Daniel Day-Lewis. You may be aware that Day-Lewis is known for going pretty hardcore method for his roles, and now we have our first look at the actor all trimmed up as Lincoln. He’s not in costume, but Variety’s Jeff Sneider hears that Day-Lewis hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March and his real name doesn’t even appear on the call sheet, so it’s pretty safe to assume that he’s already “in character.”

Even without a costume he looks terrific, and I really can’t wait to see what’s sure to be an extraordinary performance in full. Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, and Jared Harris as Ulysses S. Grant. Lincoln opens in late 2012.

    • I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re being sarcastic….although I have no idea why….but just in case you really are vexed by “Lincoln wearing jeans” you may just wanna go ahead and read the article preceding the picture, mmkay pumpkin?

    • The man is eating at a restaurant in Richmond during a down time in filming!

It ceased to amaze me why some folks just go out of their way to sound like idiots. What is the fascination?

    • I’m going to assume that since the comment was written by J.W. Booth (John Wilkes Booth) that he’s just messing with you sooooo…. yeah.

    • The comment made me laugh.. Then the backwater dimwits (I see you Marc & P.Louise) who took it seriously made me laugh again. Great work JWBooth, great work.

    • Levi Strauss & Co. – founded 1857…
I got to wondering if Lincoln could have worn jeans in reality. But apparently Levi’s didn’t start actually manufacturing jeans until the 1870′s. Just a few decades off, or I could picture Lincoln in Levi’s, axe in hand.

  1. The Call Sheet thing is not really accurate. It’s commonplace for big star’s real names to not be listed on call sheets or on their trailers. It’s usually the character’s name or an abbreviation. It’s not because DDL is particularly method, its just basic set security. Cool pic, though.

  2. Day Lewis is known for getting deeply, deeply, methodical with his material.

Personally I feel that this guy is one of the most amazing screen masters of our (my old ass’s) generation. I grew up on this guy back before he was so lauded.

    He’s brilliant.

Step into a MFN Slim Jim!!!

  3. Daniel have been preperation for the role since early this year. and the last time he prepared for that long, he gave us DANIEL PLAINVIEW! the greatest actor of our generation is BACK! and this time, he’ll be directed by one of the greats again.

  4. I’m confused… I came here looking for pictures of my all-time favorite actor daniel-day lewis, but all there is is a photo of abraham lincoln…WTF COLLIDER!

  5. I can not wait to see this movie with this amazing cast based on a book by Doris directed by spielburg can U say epic
