Daniel Radcliffe is in talks to star in Grand Theft Auto, the behind-the-scenes account of the conflict between Grand Theft Auto creator, Sam Houser, and Florida attorney Jack Thompson, who opposed the glorification of violence in the video game industry. Owen Harris, who directed episodes of the popular British series Misfits and Black Mirror, will direct for BBC Films.

Per THR, Radcliffe is in negotiations for the role of Sam Houser, the co-founder and president of Rockstar Games. The role of Jack Thompson has yet to be cast. The script, previously titles Rockstar Games, comes from James WoodJim Spencer will produce alongside Mark Hedgecoe as executive producer. Production is slated to begin on April 20.

The film will center on the true-life conflict between Rockstar Games, who created the extremely popular and violent video game series, and the unorthodox Miami-based attorney who was eventually disbarred for inappropriate behavior. Houser and GTA were one of Thompson's favorite targets.Harris recently filmed his first feature, Kill Your Friends, starring Nicholas Hoult, Ed Skrein and James Corden.  Radcliffe recently wrapped Lionsgate's Now You See Me: The Second Act and will be seen next in Fox's Victor Frankenstein with James McAvoy.

Harris' episode of Black Mirror, "Be Right Back", stars Haley Atwell and Domhall Gleeson, and is one of the finest hours in the generally exceptional series. His haunting and devastating meditation on tragic loss and the grieving process proved him more-than-able at dramatic storytelling. Grand Theft Auto is based on a fascinating subject matter, and if they cast the right actor to play off Radcliffe, this could be an electric film. Certainly, the story still has resonance, with series like Hannibal and The Following on network TV we've only grown more accepting of graphic violence in the media with time. Personally, I've got no problem with it, but it's easy to see how modern entertainment might take that aspect too far for some audiences.
