First up from Deadline is word that Radcliffe will take to Tokyo Vice as real-life American reporter Jake Adelstein who covered the crime beat in Tokyo while working at the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper. During his tenure there, he went up against the “John Gotti of Japan,” Yakuza boss Tadamasa Goto. Based on Adelstein’s memoir detailing the high personal cost and sacrifice of investigating and finally exposing the notorious gangster, production on Tokyo Vice is expected to start early in 2014. Adelstein, who is still an investigative reporter, will be working with Rogers on the story.
Meanwhile, THR reports that Watts and Driver are both in negotiations to join While We’re Young. Written by Baumbach, the story centers on “an uptight documentary filmmaker (Stiller) and his wife (Watts) who find their lives loosened up a bit after befriending a free-spirited younger couple,” played in part by Driver. The picture has seen a number of stars come and go, among them James Franco, Cate Blanchett, Jesse Eisenberg and Greta Gerwig, with Amanda Seyfried now rumored as a candidate for the role opposite Driver. If Watts officially signs on, the film is expected to begin production this fall in New York.
Finally, from Variety, it looks like D’Arcy and Dobrev will be joining Let’s Be Cops, a comedy following “two friends (Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr.) who impersonate cops for fun but everything goes wrong when they mess with a real-life mobster.” D’Arcy will play the antagonistic mobster while Dobrev will star as Wayans Jr.’s love interest.
