Drew Goddard Confirmed to Write, Direct, and Run Marvel’s DAREDEVIL Netflix Series

by     Posted 269 days ago

Marvel has confirmed some exciting news relating to its upcoming string of Netflix shows.  We learned last month that Cabin in the Woods co-writer/director Drew Goddard was in talks to spearhead Marvel’s Daredevil series, and now the studio has confirmed that Goddard will indeed be running the show.  The Cloverfield scribe will write and direct the first episode and will act as showrunner and executive producer on the show’s entire 13-episode run.  Daredevil is one of four one-season Netflix series that Marvel is producing, which also includes Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.  All of the one-season shows will lead up to a The Defenders miniseries.

Daredevil will be first out of the gate, with Marvel confirming that it will premiere on Netflix in 2015.  With a guy as passionate and talented as Goddard at the helm, Daredevil looks to be in very good hands.

Okay this is already looking about 20X better than MAOS.

    • The Flobbit

      What the hell is MAOS?

      • ska7triumph

Marvel Agents of SHIELD? Maybe you’d have known it with MAoS? Which is an absolute bore, even for network TV?

      • The Flobbit

Oh, Curious George is looking better than Agents of SHIELD. Teletubbies looks better than AOS.

  • The507thDoctor

    Very happy by this news!

  • SomeGuy

Okay, now let’s start talking casting. I can really picture Dan Aykroyd in the role. He could really shine as both Daredevil and Matt Murdock.

    • Jimmy B

Daredevil is blind. Not the audience.

      • eternalozzie

        (insert chuckle here)

    • Strong Enough

      WHAT? lmao

    • The Flobbit

I was more thinking Garrett Hedlund….

    • Tom A.

I doubt he does it, but someone on another site mentioned Michael C. Hall for the role. I think he’d be awesome.

  • Jamesy

F*ck yeah!! If this is on Netflix does it mean we’ll actually get a bad ass DD and not a watered down version? They should take a similar route with Deadpool, imagine a Deadpool series on AMC or the like. hope this is the start of DC characters other than Supes and Bats getting their chance.

    • Lex Walker

How exactly does the Marvel character Daredevil getting his own Netflix series correlate to DC heroes other than Supes and Bats getting their chance? (Nevermind that Green Arrow has been getting a pretty decent chance on TV)

      • Jamesy

I should have worded that better, I meant now that other characters in the Marvel universe other than Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine etc are getting a chance, maybe DC will look towards giving characters other than Superman and Batman a chance. I know Green Arrow is on The CW and is doing pretty well but he’s still relatively unknown at this stage, at least to the general audience. DC have a ton of characters who deserve a shot either on TV or a feature, I keep thinking Jonah Hex would work well as a series as long as it was on HBO or AMC.

      • Lex Walker

Ah, gotcha. I think Jonah Hex will never be touched again. That flop stung DC and they don’t take failure well.

      • Jamesy

True, it did flop…hard. Looking back at the cast though, Brolin, Fassbender, Malkovich, Shannon, can only wonder what would have been if they had a better script/director. Maybe somewhere down the line they’ll give it another go, Green Lantern didn’t do as well as hoped and there’s still talk of continuing, so you never know.

      • Lex Walker

Yeah the cast of Hex had soooo much potential. GL is only going to get new life because DC needs him for JL, otherwise he’d probably get buried next to Hex.

  • mattinacan

wow this is really good news indeed!

  • Cedhollywood

All I got to say is that I’m looking forward to this and all of the other marvel Netflix series. These will be a better and welcomed addition over the network standard and practice restrictive rated agents of 90210 shield SVU tv show.

  • Firefly13

Ugh. the wretched and boring cloverfield & the unoriginal as hell cabin in the woods guy?
what is with folks loving sub par entertainment?
    oh, yeah. it’s hollywood.

    • Ozweego

Unoriginal Cabin in the Woods??? Not sure if trolling or just dumb…

      • Ben Wigler

        Definitely both trolling and dumb.

    • sense111

wow your taking trolling to new heights

    • Firefly13

No, I’m not a troll and I’m not dumb. Cabin in the woods rips off movies far better and far more original such as the Canadian trilogy titled Cube, Cube 2: Hybercube, and Cube Zero, the original Evil Dead movies, as well as the movie Thirteen Ghosts. Those are just a few movies that come to mind.
I don’t care if you loved the movie. If you loved it, great. Don’t knock me because I didn’t. I’m not a troll. I’m a human being with an opinion. Just like you.
I thought that Tucker & Dale VS Evil was far more entertaining, funny, and original than Cabin In The Woods, as well.

      • Firefly13

So I found Cabin In The Woods (CITW) to be lame and unoriginal. So what? You and your friends can love the film, I’m not worried about it. Why do people have to take an opinion about a movie so personally? Why? I don’t care about people that don’t like movies that I like. Or the music that I like. Or the books that I love. I don’t care.
People are different for a reason and I love and accept that. I didn’t realize my comment “what is with folks loving sub par entertainment?” would strike a nerve with anyone at all. As it is, my comment was directed towards the folks that run Hollywood studios.

But the movie CITW is NOT original. Not at all. To say so is untrue. That’s like claiming Avatar (James Cameron flick) had the most original script. Or that humans are infallible. It’s not true. I can see the appeal and entertainment value that CITW had for folks that have not been exposed to the various horror films that CITW took bits and pieces of, but that doesn’t make it an original flick.
Why people have to trip out over my comment and then insult me is ridiculous.

      • Ozweego

        Who are you talking to?

  • sense11

    That’s fantastic news

  • pinkincide

I hate to pee on everybody’s enthusiasm, but…Hemlock Grove. Someone had to say it. Netlix is entirely capable of making crap.

    • paul h

Not forgetting they seem to listen to “teh internets” too much… I thought the Zombieland pilot was alright but they kiiled it cuz of all the dumbasses who complained it didn’t have Woody/etc in it :scowl:
