The plan for Marvel’s pact with Netflix seemed simple at first. Four series, starting with Daredevil and going into A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, culminating in The Defenders. When Steve talked earlier today with Daredevil showrunner/executive producer Steven S. DeKnight, however, the idea of Daredevil Season 2 reared its head, a possibility that weirdly hasn’t been talked about all that much beforehand, considering how the Marvel roll-out was initially planned.
Here’s what De Knight had to say when asked about the possibility of continuing the upcoming Netflix series:
“I have absolutely no idea. No matter what show you do, there’s always a possibility of a second season. Nothing’s been talked about, nothing’s been decided. If I had my druthers, would we do a second season? Sure, I think it would warrant it. In regards to The Defenders and how that works, I think it would work pretty much like the movies. You could do season 1 of Daredevil, you do season 2, and depending on where the other shows fall, you might get second season of Jessica Jones… There’s really no way of telling, it’s really a grand experiment.”
It would seem DeKnight is definitely up for Daredevil Season 2, and given Netflix’s low bar for a renewal (they’ve ordered a second season of almost all of their original series thus far), it seems like it would be an easy decision on their end. We haven’t yet seen how fans will respond to the series, but early word on the first season of Daredevil has been largely positive and optimistic about the show’s possible future. Cautious optimism is important in these situations, but is anyone really doubting that a Marvel property, even when tied into other storylines currently in production, will go for a second installment?
Daredevil Season One will be released in full on Netflix on April 10th. Check out what De Knight had to say about Daredevil season 2 below and look for more with De Knight soon:
