If you’ve been following the marketing for the second season of Daredevil, Netflix’s unparalleled Marvel adaptation of the blind vigilante that protects the denizens of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, as much as I have, you’ll remember that the last full trailer we saw ended with the appearance of Elektra (Elodie Yung). Those familiar with the comics will no doubt know that Elektra is at once an adversary and a love interest for Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox), the mild-mannered lawyer who turns into the titular hero at night. And we now have a potent sense of what that relationship will look like in the second season, thanks to the latest thrilling trailer for the show, which you can take a look at right below. This trailer focuses more on Elektra and the rise of the crime syndicate known as The Hand, arguably the biggest thorn in Daredevil’s side in the comics, than The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
And if you happen to remember the first take on Daredevil, with Ben Affleck in the red suit, first of all, apologies for having such a thorough memory. Secondly, you’ll note that the relationship between Affleck’s Murdock and Jennifer Garner‘s Elektra was at the center of that absolutely unwatchable film, and the filmmakers could have hardly betrayed the spirit of the source material’s handling of that complex relationship more than they did. This looks different. This looks like what I remember reading over in my teens and college years. This looks like one of the best seasons of television of 2016.
