[Update: We’ve updated the article with officially released versions of some of the images, via EW.]
While the first teaser trailer for Daredevil Season 2 succeeded in stirring up nearly uncontainable excitement, the footage only offered half-glimpses of newcomers Elodie Yung and Jon Bernthal as Elektra and Punisher. However, while Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue has been focusing heavily on the Doctor Strange reveals, it also debuted the first official look at these characters in the highly anticipated new season.
Via Heroic Hollywood, we see low-quality, unofficially released snapshots of the magazine’s inner pages revealing the characters come to life. By the looks of it, the “Man without Fear” will have his hands full with these new arrivals. Bernthal’s Punisher is shown standing over Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, who is left chained on the ground. I can’t wait to find out what plans Castle has for that gun and wrench.
EW describes Castle as similar to Daredevil in that he too wants to clean up the streets. Where they differ is in their ideologies: Castle “uses guns instead of fisticuffs and simply murders every criminal he can find.” Yung’s Elektra is also featured, though out of costume, and the magazine introduces her as a “lethal love interest” who is a “crucial part” of Season 2.
Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), and Scott Glenn (Stick) all return for Season 2, which will be an interesting season to say the least. Yes, we have Punisher. Yes, we have Elektra. But what we also have is this new post-Jessica Jones Hell’s Kitchen. Claire is the only prominent character who has been able to move between series, and now that she returns once again to Matt Murdock’s side, she’ll probably have stories to tell of the bourbon-swigging strong-woman and the man with abs of steel. There’s already been a tease of a Luke Cage cameo.
Netflix has yet to announced an official premiere date for Daredevil Season 2, though it’s definitely coming next year.
