While Bane broke the Bat in The Dark Knight Rises, it looks like Frank Castle will break Daredevil. “Street justice has taken a dark turn” in the latest promo for Daredevil season 2 featuring Jon Bernthal’s Punisher clutching the Man Without Fear’s mask as he emerges from the shadows. Not a good sign for our Hell’s Kitchen hero.

Among the smackdowns coming to the various superhero universes this year is the inevitable clash of Punisher and Daredevil. The second season doesn’t hit Netflix until next month, but all the promotional material, including the trailers and posters, are teasing a beaten and chained up hero at the hands of the vengeful comic book character.

Another version of the brief video released on Netflix’s Asia Twitter account teases, “You hit them and they get back up. I hit them and they stay down.” Frank takes justice into his own hands in his search for revenge after his family is killed. While Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) struggled with killing his adversaries in Season 1, Punisher will put his moral code in check. He says to Daredevil in the trailer, “I think you’re a man who can’t finish the job,” and, “You’re one bad day from being me.”

Speaking, too, to the inclusion of Elodie Yung’s Elektra, co-showrunner Doug Petrie told Collider:

[Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb] was intrigued with the question, what is it to be a hero? In Season 1, we built the hero, but now we have these new characters coming in and testing Matt Murdock. They’re saying, “Oh, okay, you’re going to put on this suit and beat people up that you feel deserve it. We do that, too, except there’s a difference. We kill them.” They don’t feel like it’s that big of a difference, but he does.

Daredevil Season 2 will be released in its entirety on Netflix on March 18th.
