Netflix has been ramping up its Daredevil teasers as we approach the show’s 13-episode premiere in April. In two images released today, we get a clear look at Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. Though D’Onofrio has apparently studied up on the character’s comic image (basically, being a big bald bastard), the character on the show may differ from the comic iteration.
According to Netflix,
The shadowy figure behind organized crime in Hell’s Kitchen, Wilson Fisk has one mission in mind: to save Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter the cost. This immediately puts him at odds with Matt Murdock’s vigilante alter-ego, who also seeks to protect the city – but sees the criminal element as the root of the city’s problems. Central to this conflict is that Fisk truly believes he’s doing good for Hell’s Kitchen and at times may seem more of a hero to its people than Daredevil. Intelligent, complex and physically imposing, Wilson Fisk is the perfect foil for Matt Murdock, and the two will collide dramatically in Marvel’s Daredevil.
It sounds like Kingpin and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) will share a desire to clean up the city, both thinking they are doing so for the greater good, yet going about it in vastly different ways. It almost sounds like an origin story for both Fisk and Daredevil/Murdock, which will really develop Fisk, hopefully, as a truly dynamic foe.
