People toss around the word “epic” far too much in describing the things they like and the failures of noobs. But the films of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy are epic, in every sense of the word. Which makes the trailer we’re about to show you really freaking epic. Imagine, if you will, that Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were actually one big blockbuster. Now imagine they made a trailer for that blockbuster…and it was really, really, really great.

Weaving together footage from all three chapters, what lies on the other side of the jump is not just another appetizer for The Dark Knight Rises, but an illustration of the remarkable ambition and scope of this whole series. This is the first big screen comic franchise that works as one (pristinely executed) arc, with a clear beginning, middle and end. We should all look forward to the day when we can pop them in the Blu-ray one after the other and, with the final credits rolling, utter the word “Epic” as we’ve never meant it before. For now, hit jump to be blown the hell away.

And here…we…go:

Here’s the official synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar(R) winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar(R) winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar(R) winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

    I cried.

Yes, as someone who has basically grown up along side Nolan’s trilogy, watching Batman Begins, seeing Dark Knight opening day… that trailer packed an emotional punch and made me realize that the story is nearly complete. I’m seeing Rises at a midnite screening tonight, and when it’s all said and done, I may very well have tears in my eyes.

      Why?

This almost looks fanmade. It’s AWESOME. But for some reason it just feels fanmade…

    • DerpyMcDerpstein

Well no shit they are splicing footage and audio from 3 movies, its going to have that fanmade feel.

      • paul tracy

derpy. don’t be the rabid loser the comments section has grown to roll their eyes at. just chill. Alex was making an observation, not hurling some poison needle at your heart.

        hold hands. walk into theater.

I’m sure the guy who made this will get tons of thumbs up, and I congratulate him for making a neat video? But I leave disappointed. I wanted a condensed recap of the trilogy, not a random montage. It reminds me of those fan-made music videos that translate the lyrics of a song into something 100% literal.

    Awesome!!

    Nolan you did it.

Love the trailer, absolutely love it. Only 15 more hours! Batfans unite! Today The Dark Knight Rises! And for others tonight at that midnight screening. dewgothamcity.com hooked it up with advanced screening tickets!

I am saddened and really, disappointed, that none of the “enthusiast press” sites have picked up on the story of blind fanboys taking their love of this film too far.

Critics who gave negative reviews have received death threats on RottenTomatoes. Policing the comments has become too large a job for the entire RT.com staff that they’ve just had to disable user comments on the site. This “you should die in a fire” and “I want to beat you with a rubber hose into a Coma” mentality over a movie that NONE OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN YET.

Why isn’t Collider posting an admonishment of these fans? A story highlighting the raging fanboys out there and spotlighting all that is wrong with us, the hardcore fans? I am super excited for Batman tonight, it’s all I can think of right now while I’m at work, but the lack of any mention of truly disgusting behavior by the press is insulting.

While I don’t condone the words of those fools threatening critics for their negative opinion(s) on a comic book movie. I think this “news” story about the comments on Rottentomatoes.com has been totally blown outta’ proportion.

I just saw a spot about it on the Today show, and I thought, why? Why is this getting so much pub? And, why now? Hateful, even threatening, comments on the Internet, concerning movies, isn’t anything new, it happens with any major release.

So, why are news outlets all of the sudden picking this up now? And, frankly, who cares? Now, if some maniac actually acted on their words and harmed one of these critics, that would be something. But, talk, especially on the internet, is cheap.

aw, cry about it. plus anyone who uses the term fanboy is immediately irrelevant

EPICALLY EPIC FAN MADE TRAILER WILL LEAVE YOU… EPIC-IFIED.

Seriously, I LOVE the Nolan Batman movies, and I can’t wait to see TDKR this weekend, but can we as fanboys dial back the rhetoric just a tad bit? We are beginning to sound frothy-mouthed, and frankly imbecilic.

    It’s a freaking Batman movie.
