In an attempt to avoid being overshadowed by The Avengers announcement from their superheroic counterparts at Marvel, word has it that Warner Bros. execs have seen a rough cut of The Dark Knight Rises, screened by Christopher Nolan. Since the movie doesn’t officially open until July 20th, that should give the director plenty of time to tweak things (say, for example, if certain characters’ voices aren’t clear enough). Heat Vision reports that studio heads in attendance included film chief Jeff Robinov and production president Greg Silverman. With The Dark Knight Rises opening so soon after Comic-Con (although Nolan has yet to attend), it would be a big surprise if there weren’t some sort of presence there this year.

The Dark Knight rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. Hit the jump for the synopsis and trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar(R) winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar(R) winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar(R) winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

The constant complaining about Bane’s voice needs to end, it does not help anyone and you must realize that you have no control over Nolan’s creative process. In fact, the voice is fine, true, it was difficult to understand at first but that is because it is heavily accented and drastically different from every other voice in the film. After hearing Bane speak for a minute or two you will have no problem understanding him. The airplane scene is difficult to understand because it is on an airplane and the sequencing is really what is important there.
Nolan owes nothing to comic con. He does not go because he does not need to go, he understands that as far as Batman is concerned he does not need to pander to the comic con crowd. Nolan is more interested in using the Batman character to ask questions about society that go beyond what say the Avengers or Spider-Man have done. The only comic book film that comes as close is Iron Man and only a little. Most comic book films are character driven whereas Nolan’s Batman is more about the world that Batman lives in and how and why it came to be, why it needs Batman or whether or not it does. Let go of comic-con! let it be a place for geeks to be geeks not for Hollywood to monopolize with retarded panels where guys like Ryan Reynolds answer questions from little children planted in the audience or Andrew Garfield who planted himself in the audience and talked about what it meant to be skinny and imagine being tough like Peter Parker oh boy!

        Ugh, Nolan fanboys.

      • Dolemite

Yeah and stop bashing Lucas, too!

        HAHAHAHAHAHA, good times.

Oscars 2013 here we come. TDKR is going to sweep.

The Avengers is going to sweep the razzies. ha!

    • Ur mom

You seen the movies already? :-/

    • jt

      You are hilarious.

  • AS

Christopher Nolan waits patiently as the executives file into the screening room. He introduces the film and then exits the theater. Outside of the screening room, a large, bald and muscular man walks over to him.

    - Nolan leans in to the man -

Christopher Nolan: “When the screening is over, they have my permission to die.”

    • Miggietomgirl

LMAO! Ok, AS that was hilarious!

  • Masshuu il Malacandra

Looks interesting but makes no sense to me. Who is the main villan? Catwoman? Bane? Someone unknown or not revealed?

    • Da Boss

You’re forgetting Ra’s Al Ghul aka Liam Neeson,he’s confirmed to be in the movie.

      • nkutzler

Neeson was never confirmed for the film. He has been on set, which could mean any number of things, especially just voice recordings for flashbacks. If he is, I hope he’s literally near death, I don’t want him magically healed even by Lazarus Pit.
The main villain is Bane. It’s clear, like the Joker over Two-Face. But I think Catwoman’s role will surprise everybody.

awesome summer lineup comin up lads. TDKR and Avengers are really two different types of movies for different profiles with an overlap…which is thankfully where I sit! heh heh

  • Rick Roll

    no more dead cops

    • Hunter

      haha nice

  • junierizzle

What’s with people choosing sides between Avengers and TDKR? I want both to be awesome!

    • headshot

Agreed. Both are going to be explosive

  • Ray

Yea I want both movies to do well. It is a win-win for all of us. Why would you want a film to fail anyways? What does that accomplish? Nothing I say!

  • Rockslide

I’m also very excited for both films. I’m glad that they are totally different styles. You are allowed to see multiple movies in one summer, you can even enjoy multiple movies too. I hope they both do well so we keep getting more comic films.

I’m moderately confident that TDKR will be fantastic, but I’m just not feeling the trailer. All my excitement comes from Christopher Nolan’s past work.

I had the same thing happen with John Carter for the most part. That turned out to be only a good movie, though, not a great one for me. I did expect a bit better from Andrew Stanton even though the marketing didn’t grab me.

The simplistic and straightforward marketing of The Avengers is working just fine on me though. There’s enough character and hints of Whedon wit that I’m optimistic. Whedon’s track record makes me pause though (will this be magic like Firefly, or full of what should have been obvious problems like the first 3/4 of Dollhouse season one? Or will it be a misfire at great potential like Serenity? Rooting for magic, here!)

When I first read that headline “Christopher Nolan Screens THE DARK KNIGHT RISES” my 1st thought was “possibly for a test audience?”

My IMMEDIATE & ADRENALIZED 2nd reaction was “OMG!!! WHERE?????” Haha.

All the mixed reactions to Bane’s voice aside, I have no doubt TDKR will kick all kinds of butt this summer. C’mon July 20th…Hurry up & get here already!!!
