First Clip from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Features Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman

     July 10, 2012

After a new trailer, TV spot and IMAX poster for The Dark Knight Rises debuted earlier today, we now have the first clip from the movie to share with you.  While a lot of attention is spent on Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy) and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), the first clip highlights a conversation between Officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman).  While some of you may be suffering from The Dark Knight Rises marketing fatigue, this clip shines a Bat-signal on a nice slow-burn of dialogue.

Director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, also starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard, opens in IMAX on July 20th.  Hit the jump to check out the first clip.

Here’s the first clip from The Dark Knight Rises from Oldman’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via CBM):

Here’s the official synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises:

the-dark-knight-rises-imax-posterWarner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar(R) winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar(R) winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar(R) winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Must not watch. Must not watch. Must not watch. Must not watch. F*ck. F*ck. F*ck. Should I watch? Aaahhh I don’t know! If I watch this one, I’ll have to watch them all because that’s just how I am! I told myself I’ll watch all of the trailers and TV Spots, but I WILL NOT watch the clips. F*CK!!!

    Alright. I’ll watch.

  • Sabrina

Ooh, which end??? Or did you make a new hole?

  • Mike91

I don’t get you people. It’s so f***ing easy to close the window and not watch. You’ll feel such regret after watching it, and then when the clip plays while you’re in the cinema, you’ll be the annoying guy who has already seen it? I like Nolan too much to watch this clip.

    • Nate H

I have no problem watching this clip before the film. It helps manage the anticipation of when the movie comes out. Don’t give me this crap about how sorry I’ll be when I see it in the cinema – the movie is freakin’ 2 hrs 45 min long! A 30 second clip won’t ruin it for anyone.

This clip contains nothing important, just watch it. You know you want to!

Finally I can say “I got my ticket” in advance!

Didnt watch, wont either bracing myself for the surprises in the film! Only saw the teaser at christmas so I am so READY!

I can’t believe people think watching clips ruins the movie. If a movie is bad it will be bad regardless if you watched the clips/trailers etc. If it’s a good movie it won’t matter. Unfortunately most movies are not that good anyway.,

    • Kalel

Of course they can ruin a movie! Well, moreso trailers than clips imo. As a trailer is edited in a way that falsely tells you its own story from all the best bits, so when you watch the film and it doesnt play out the way its put a different story in your mind, so often it ends up nowhere near as good as your imagination has taken you.

Promethius is a good example, eary music, very much Alien connected, fast paced “run for your life” montage. The film didn’t play out like people hoped from the trailers. (for many)

Avengers showed off waaay too much, and TDK has too. Clips arent as bad because they dont put a false movie into your head. however, when seeing the film, you may think ” boring, ive seen this already. However all these things are very tantalizing, just like chocolate. Oh just one more! etc..

  • Joe

This is too cruel. I can’t watch another snippet.
I want the whole 3 hour buffet now.

  • Proud Scientologist

Just saw the the clip and it totally gave the whole film away DON’T WATCH.

    • M&M

Wow. You are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY smarter than m if you figured out the the entire plot/all the events in this 2 hour 45 minute film by watching 35 seconds.

      You, sir, are A-MAZING! :p

  • A

Well they couldn’t have chosen a more boring ass clip to watch, and Garys overacting was appreciable. Joking, hes cool..but your missing absolutely nothing here.
