Warner Bros. has announced that filming has commenced on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.Â Their announcement also confirms that the movie will be shooting on three continents: North America (Pittsburgh, New York, and Los Angeles), Europe (England and Scotland), and Asia (India).Â Furthermore, the press release partially confirms our story when we said that Nolan was possibly shooting the entire film in IMAX.Â While the entire movie won’t be shot in IMAX, the press release states:
“Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAXÂ® cameras even more extensively than he did on â€śThe Dark Knight,â€ť which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAXÂ® cameras.Â The results were so spectacular that the director wanted to expand the use of the large-format cameras for this film.”

BURBANK, CA, May 19, 2011 â€“ Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Picturesâ€™ and Legendary Picturesâ€™ â€śThe Dark Knight Rises,â€ť the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolanâ€™s Batman trilogy.
Leading an all-star international cast, OscarÂ® winner Christian Bale (â€śThe Fighterâ€ť) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; OscarÂ® winner Marion Cotillard (â€śLa Vie en Roseâ€ť), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.
Returning to the main cast, OscarÂ® winner Michael Caine (â€śThe Cider House Rulesâ€ť) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and OscarÂ® winner Morgan Freeman (â€śMillion Dollar Babyâ€ť) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The screenplay for â€śThe Dark Knight Risesâ€ť is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer.Â The film is being produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on â€śBatman Beginsâ€ť and the record-breaking blockbuster â€śThe Dark Knight.â€ťÂ The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer.Â â€śThe Dark Knightâ€ť is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.Â Batman was created by Bob Kane.
Behind the scenes, â€śThe Dark Knight Risesâ€ť reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the â€śThe Dark Knight.â€ťÂ The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an OscarÂ® for his work on Nolanâ€™s â€śInceptionâ€ť; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and OscarÂ®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (â€śTopsy-Turvyâ€ť).Â In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won OscarsÂ® for the effects in â€śInception,â€ť will supervise the visual and special effects, respectively.Â The music will be composed by OscarÂ® winner Hans Zimmer (â€śThe Lion Kingâ€ť).
