Last night’s premiere of The Avengers elicited near-universal praise from movie bloggers, but let us not forget that there’s another superhero flick on the way.  And let’s be honest: For fanboys, there’s no bigger movie this summer (and probably this year) than The Dark Knight Rises.  The latest issue of EW has six new images from the film, and you can check them out after the jump.

The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael CaineThe Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.  Click here for new details about the picture.

As you can see from the images, Bane (Hardy) has decided to swing by a stock exchange.  During filming, there were rumors that Christopher Nolan might use the Occupy movement as background in the movie, but those rumors (like so many others) turned out to be false.  However, Bane visiting a stock exchange does seem like something that might tie into the Zeitgeist.  After all, Bruce Wayne is the 1%.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

The pic of Bale and Hathaway dancing is brilliant.

is it just me, or does bane look like Dr. Evil with a mask?

    • JandS

Lol, I actually thought the same thing when I saw that pic.

    • Batfan

Not just you lol. I’ve been saying for a while now that Bane doesn’t look threatening at all like Bane should look and sounds completely silly, but of course all these Nolan fanboys who have his dick stuck far up their asses beg to differ.

Not just you lol. I’ve been saying for a while now that Bane doesn’t look threatening at all like Bane is supposed to look and that he sounds completely silly…but of course, all these Nolan fanboys who have his dick stuck far up their asses beg to differ.

      • WEV

yo gimpfan…so he should look more threatening as in a big muscly man wearing a gimp mask in a wresting outfit? to each their own hey gimp boy, go back to watching Batman and Robin for your real Bane fetish :D

    • Travis

Yeah, just you. LOL…Bane looks dressed to f**k things up rather CONSIDERABLY.

      • Batfan

Says rabid Nolan fanboy #2425346342 who has Nolan’s dick stuck far up his ass.

      • Travis

Troll much, Batfan? Missing the days of Schumacher?

What I’m saying has nothing to do with Nolan personally; I genuinely love these new Batman incarnations. If you truly are a “Batfan”, then even if you don’t like the Nolan films, you’d respect my opinion. But I digress.

  • Junierizzle

I guess I’m the 1% that likes Anne Hathaway. I like the design too. It totally fits Nolan’s world.

    • gph-artist

I admit, I have been holding out hope that she could pull it off, despite a quiet reservation she was not the right fit. But the photo of her looting the safe is the first image I’ve seen where she looks like she’s inhabiting the role.

Most of the other shots she just looks like someone wearing a low grade, cobbled together, Halloween costume. She has looked generally out of place, and uncomfortably trying to portray allure and appeal.

      We shall see.

      • Julie

that’s because it’s one of the first pictures where you’re actually seeing her in the role instead of standing on set between takes.

    • Class War BS

That’s not the 1% in the stock exchange pic with Bane I guess

  • Travis

Personal opinion, I have a feeling that with Bane, actions will speak louder than costume design. Now, I actually have no issue with his choice of costumes, but from what I see, there is a kind of dictatoresque flamboyance with the way he dresses that may conceal a (not so) hidden rage and evil aggression. Much like the Joker, who also dressed ridiculous and flamboyantly but f***ed crap up to the max.

    • Travis

And with Catwoman/Selina Kyle, every picture I see of her gets better and better…even though her mask may take some getting used to.

  • Crimson

I still think having Cat woman in this is a mistake but if one director can pull it off Nolan can.

Trying to read what is on the front page of the Gotham Times.

  • Ryan

I dig the catwoman suit it harkens back to the Eartha Kitt design. Yes, it came from a cheesy era of batman but it works. I can’t wait to see this movie.

“And let’s be honest: For fanboys, there’s no bigger movie this summer (and probably this year) than The Dark Knight Rises.”

Um…Prometheus, anyone? I know, as much as a fan as I am of the Nolan Batman flicks, Prometheus is top of my list this summer.

All the pictures looks awesome. nice to see some hype around the film. i must say,
Sad that if u like Bane or Catwoman and defend them ur a nolan fanboy.
Maybe you just think they look great. nice take on the orignal comic book characters

  • aarmond

Bruce Almighty 2 finally! Been waiting for this. Has it been confirmed if Bruce ROBINson is directing?

  • Hunter

The new pic of catwoman that rottentomatoes has actually looks pretty good

  • Dan

First I thought JGL resembled Bruce Willis after watching the Looper trailer, but after seeing this image of him, for some weird reason he kind of resembles Mark Wahlberg in the picture. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.

  • Matt

Is it just me, or is the pic with Bruce and Fox showing Wayne wearing his fathers bathrobe (TW)? Also, that is not an Ipad, it’s too thick. What I find interesting is that Batman’s gadgets are usually ahead of their time (at least from an implementation perspective), and if this is taking place 8 years later or in the future, would he probably not have something more like Tony Stark’s photon-free data display, meaning, a tablet would be too primitive – why can’t he just manipulate data in space rather than the confines of a piece of glass? My logical guess is that whatever the device is, it’s not his…I think by the end of the film, the city, the mayor, the commissioner, essentially hand over the keys of Gotham to Batman in order to save it from Bane. Perhaps they do because Gordan has been killed? Maybe Batman has assumed the temporary position of commissioner himself? I could be totally wrong, but it’s sure fun to speculate what Nolan and the crew have up their sleeves.
