July 1, 2011

When a highly-anticipated project like The Dark Knight Rises is treated with greater secrecy than the nuclear launch codes, then every minor hint of a story somehow becomes newsworthy.  Rather than barrage you with every tiny TDKR story, we’ve rounded them up on this slow news day.  Hit the jump to check out Bruce Wayne’s sweet new ride, rumors of a new Bat-vehicle, filming news from Pittsburgh and Scotland, what you can possibly expect from Catwoman’s costume, what Tom Hardy has to say about the incessant rumors, and video from the set of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle holding hands (awwww).

Hit the jump for the round-up.  The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

As we learned in The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne doesn’t care if his car is subtle.  But since he wrecked his sweet ride in the last film, he’s gonna need a new mode of non-Bat-vehicle transportation.  Enter the the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 [via Autoblog] (plus a photo of what is probably Wayne Manor):

But if you’re interested in more Bat-oriented transportation, then check out this tweet [via Moviehole] from Location Sound Recordist and Boom Operator Freddie Z Roche:

The Dark Knight Rises’: Inside Info, they are Building 2 Attack Helicopters in the same design as the Bat Mobile from The Dark Knight! BOOM

dark-knight-movie-image-portrait-01Filming on TDKR is taking place on multiple continents.  Here’s what’s going down in Pittsburgh [via On Location Vacations]:

Come spend the day at a football game set within “Gotham City”.

The scene we’re in will be a football game, but not just any football game. We’ll be cheering on the Gotham Rogues as they take on their rival team the Rapid City Monuments.

There will be free food and parking plus a raffle for prizes.  Shooting will be on August 6th from 7am to 7pm.  I imagine that obnoxious Steelers fans will be welcome (go Falcons!).

And here’s what’s shaking in Scotland [via BBC]:

Stuntmen and a film crew have been making parachute jumps at a Highlands airstrip as part of the production of the latest Batman film.

Parachutists dressed in black and using a private jet painted black have been in action at Cairngorm Gliding Club’s site at Feshie Bridge…

It was not known if this week’s activity at the gliding club was for scenes in the film, or preparation work ahead of proper filming.

A chartered helicopter was also at the club’s airstrip along with the black jet.

Nolan has modified and twisted the costumes for his Batman villains in the past, but he may be going with something more faithful to the comics when it comes to Catwoman (Anne Hathaway).  HollywoodLife reports:

“Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies,” a source very close to the costume design tells us exclusively. “She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.”

Adds the insider, “But fan boys shouldn’t be worried. This costume is going to be form-fitting enough to make Anne look smoking hot.”

This sounds like it’s in line with Ed Brubaker’s 2001 revamp of the character, which looks like this:

As you can tell by now, much of this is rumor and speculation and Tom Hardy (who plays Bane) gave Allocine [via CBM] his two cents on the matter:

“I’m a bit naughty, actually. I like to look at everything! Even though people say not read everything, I like to read everything, so I’m aware of what’s going on.”

“I know less about the project while filming with that man because Chris Nolan doesn’t tell you anything, so I don’t know who I’m playing, what I’m doing, until the morning that I’m working!”

“Everything is subject to change with Chris Nolan, but on the whole, I know which information is true and false.”

Finally, someone very far away took some set video of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle holding hands in front of what could be the rebuilt Wayne Manor.  Fellas, if you want to win a lady’s heart, invite her to see your giant underground cave filled with expensive gadgets and flying rodents.

  • Come on Son!!!

ZZZZ. Kiding!!! Can’t wait to see Tom Hardy with his shirt off. As a gay man he tickles me in the right spot. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  • Batmaniac

BAT COPTER!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! Hope this is true. The Batpod was fantastic, and I love seeing the Bat Gadgets. Hope the suit gets a makeover too. But a Batcopter, WOW. Ariel combat I hope!

I wonder if it will be getting a new name though, ie.. The Batmobile called Tumbler. Batcycle called Bat pod.

Bat Gyro? Bat Blade? Place your bets….

    • Gotham Kid

      BATCOPTER = WIN!!!!

Also be nice to see a new Suit.. (Hated the TDK suit and weird head.and chest symbol)

Cant wait to see the Cave. And a new design Batmobile would be great too. And a few new gadgets. They made Begins so interesting.

Shame these bat flicks werent filmed in “Edinburgh” doubling up as Gotham. I went there once, and it was very gothic looking, and at the time 1998 I said this was like Gotham city, but shorter buildings. (Though it was more like the Tim Burton Gotham.) One of Britains most beautiful cities. Google it.

I’ve always been a fan of Bat-Wing from The Batman. I hope that’s what they call it.

      • Gotham Kid

Snap! Love the term Bat Wing. Though, if its a helicopter it may not fit the Wind description.

Anyone ever see those Dark Knight web documentaries that never seemed to feature on the DVD extras?

The Wayne Enterprises newsreels, showcasing Wayne Tech products. One that stuck out was a Silent rotorblade thing that immediately made me think of a stealth helicoptor, though in the clip it was for some more “public” service. But it definately hinted that Wayne was developing a silent Coptor based object.

That aventador looks sooo cool. The murcielago already looks like shit compared to this.
Anyway, I’m a but surprised that they are really pushing forward with the whole Catwoman thing with Hathaway instead of her just playing Selina Kyle. Oh and a batcopter as a new vehicle? nice and all, but I still want to see a new batmobile/tumbler. Can’t wait to see those first photos of the newly refurbished batcave too!:D

  • Desert Rat

Okay, so, Im not too well versed in the Batman mythos, so, is there actually a Batcopter in the comics?

Even if there isnt, holy shit! Bat-COPTER? Thats freaking brilliant!

    • BAT WING

Yep there was indeed! In several of the comics, but made particularly famous in the 60s TV series with Adam West. Just called the BatCopter. Also a Batplane which is more popular in the comics (re invented s the BAT WING in 89 Batman)

I always hoped to see a Batwing in Nolans films, but I suppose Bruce flying a Helicopter would be more explicable than suddenly flying a fighter jet through a city.

Though I thought a stealth flying vehicle would be soooo cool to see. Be great if they can have it hang from buildings upsidedown like a Bat.

  • James

how do we know that was selina kyle in the video?? couldnt it have been marion cotillard’s characters??

  • Dave Trumbore

“Obnoxious Steelers fans?” You’re dead to me Goldberg! (The truth hurts…)

  • joe kerr

it would be really cool if they include the bat copter (i hope they come up with a cooler name though), it seems plausible (blue thunder anyone?).

  • Batboyuk

New Wayne manor is Wollaton Hall in Nottingham
Filming has taken place over the last couple of weeks and so far :

    Filming of a garden party
Scenes of party goers running from the house
