Three promo images for The Dark Knight Rises have gone online.  These aren’t images from the movie nor will they appear on any official poster, but a Dark Knight Rises fix is a Dark Knight Rises fix.  Look for something more substantial when the new trailer is attached to The Avengers.

Hit the jump to check out the images, and click here for Steve’s recap of the footage he saw at CinemaCon.  The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

[Update: We've been asked by Warner Bros. to remove these images given that they weren't approved for release.]

    Very very nice.

Dig on Bane’s look. He’s gonna be a tuffin.

Ehh, I’m disappointed that they kept the same Batsuit from TDK, I really don’t like it…there’s way too much going on, it has too much of a science fiction-y cybernetic kind of look to it. Much preferred the BB suit, even if he couldn’t turn his head he just looked more intimidating in it. The huge flowing cape and the bulkiness of it gave him that “more than just a man” vibe, he looked less like a guy running around in armor and more like a giant bat flying around in the shadows. Whenever he perched on top of something in that suit it made him look like a gargoyle almost.

Hahaha the first one is the RockyIII freeze frame ending!

  • tom

obviously that first image is ballin, but i think the second one is totally badass. batman looks like he’s gonna murder someone

    • Singularity

      Enormous cranium.

  • Carl Robertson

    lolololol those images.

  • Mark

Loving that first image, comic come to life.

  • Jesus

It’s funny, I just realized that the size of Batman’s helmet forehead is really about the same as Captain America’s, but because it’s black, and thus hides its depth, it’s not nearly as goofy looking as the blue with an A of Cap’s.

The real point though, “Damn, costumed heroes have big foreheads.”

  • Anon

Is it just me or do these images look way more comic bookie than stuff that we saw before Batman Begins and Dark Knight? I hope Nolan hasn’t abandoned his more realistic style for flashy bat-planes, exploding football fields and silly looking cat women.

    • Antonio

He won’t, TDKR is gonna be as real as it gets. The trailers show this.

These are just promo shots. Could be used for a number of different things.

Avengers have promo shots too that are bit cartoonish, even though the film isn’t.

      Again, just PROMO shots.

    • Mark

I think this is marketing material for toys and such since it isn’t going to be used on posters.

  • Antonio

BATMAN is such a fucking GANGSTA.

The Dark Knight Rises >>>>>> The Avengers

Look forward to Nolan and crew sweeping the Oscars.

It’s only competition is Spielberg’s LINCOLN.

    Mark my words.

    • Toughy

I’ll mark your words with a big red F.

    • Jesus

Wow, wrong on every count, save for Lincoln, which probably will win Day-Lewis an Oscar. Don’t let your fanboyism blind you to reality. Even if TDKR is one of the best (if not the best) superhero films ever made, it doesn’t have the death of one of its main stars to make it as poignant a buildup as TDK received. Fanboys forget that Ledger’s death gave TDK much more critical and fan weight than it would have had unto itself as a poorly paced caped crusader crime caper. It might win cinematography again, but from what I’ve seen of previews, the dialogue is really cheesy (almost Schumacher cheesy), Bale is still a throaty Batman, and Hathaway has no idea how to be a sultry antihero. Sultry, yes, antihero, no.

      Stop lying to yourself.

First off I dont see TDKR winning anything major at the oscars, maybe best score at most. I must be part of a rare breed that thinks bale;s voice is badass and suits batman. Anyways im getting tired of ppl saying,” from what i’ve seen in previews” not just for this film but others coming out this year, and really, almost schumacher cheesy? I dont see tom hardy in the previews grabbing icicles and saying “bomb” when he places then in position. I dont see alicia silverstone saying,”suit me up uncle alfred”. seems to me you are just a hater. Btw where is the footage of anne as catwoman? do you get special previews that the general public dont see? All I saw was a glimpse of her after the prolouge, the rest she is not in costume, soo where is this coming from other than hate on the batman franchise? As for hype of the film, TDKR doesnt need the death of tom hardy to grab everyones attention, the previous films and nolans track record along with the allstar cast give the movie all the hype it needs. Seriously you must be a hater, if so then sucks to be you

You are a rare breed indeed to like Bale’s voice, as most either don’t care or think it’s ridiculous. And yes, “almost Schumacher cheesy” stands – it doesn’t have to be as punny, but Bane’s grandiose speeches are a bit out there. Catwoman/Selina Kyle – you’re just playing a semantics point with that argument, and it does nothing to invalidate the fact that a) Hathaway looks goofy in her outfit and b) her “did you really think you could keep on taking” bit comes across as contrived (not to mention an opportunistic inclusion of current protest trends). I didn’t say it needed the death to merely get attention, but for people to fawn over it as the second coming of superhero film’s Jesus (aka the TDK reaction). I quite enjoy the Batman films under Nolan’s hand, but I can also be objective, step back, and look at a film for its actual successes and failures. I’m sorry if you can’t and instead resort to calling everyone who criticizes things in the Nolan Batverse as “haters”. Grow up.

    • hulk

This movie will win ZERO awards.

      • DES

I hope the universe is with you and you are right about this. This is going to be no brainer beteween Spidey and Batty. Long live Avengers. Joss Wheadon will knock out Nolan with the first head-butt.

    • lolnolanfanboys

lol, I can 100% guarantee you that a blockbuster superhero movie like this is not going to get any Oscar attention aside from technical stuff like visual effects, sound editing, etc…the movies that will be the real contenders will be the more artsy or serious movies like Django Unchained, Argo, The Gangster Squad, Les Miserables, etc.
Nolan fanboys are so silly lol

whoops replied to the wrong comment

    • potterboy

Antonio, i’m sorry. but your lack of knowledge in cinema this year is unacceptable. PTA has THE MASTER this year. LINCOLN isn’t even in the top(unless for best actor).

Spielberg and Nolan aren’t the only top filmmakers in the world man

  • darrin

new spider-man trailer as well is attached to avengers

  • Crimson

Looks like a promo for a video game rather than a movie. the 3rd image in particular looks cheesey

  • Beatific

Looks like these are aimed at kids, the kind of images you would find on lunch boxes.

    • AlexHeyNa

I thought the exact same thing.

  • Singularity

The first one has a kind of Alex Ross quality to it.

  • catt

Ugghh. Cheesy Photoshop comps. Looks like fan art.

  • AlexHeyNa

I’m sorry, but these pictures do not capture the essence of Nolan’s film at all. They looks more like pictures that would go on a kid’s lunchbox. Not that the pictures aren’t AWESOME. They just don’t make me think Chris Nolan’s films.

    • Strong Enough

There you go. its not for you but for little kids idiot.

  • Phoenix

The first picture should have the tagline: “When evil rises, so must the Batman”

these pics are a bit terrible, really. harks back to the Batman & Robin fiasco. a bit too cartoonish. Much like the Prometheus David 8 promo, the tone of both films clash with the occasional promo misfire.
