Trailer Description for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? Plus the First Poster [Updated with Image]

by     Posted 2 years, 278 days ago

As we previously reported, the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is rumored to be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 this weekend.  And with the teaser poster getting released yesterday, it’s looking like those rumors are probably true.

Anyway, a few minutes ago a reader contacted me and they’re claiming to have seen the teaser trailer and have sent us a description.  Hit the jump if you want to check it out.  Opening on July 20th, 2012, The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Morgan Freeman.

Update: A reader named Dave just sent us a photo from the trailer.  It’s below the description.

Update 2: WB asked us to take down the image. Sorry if you missed it.

the-dark-knight-rises-teaser-posterWhile I always recommend waiting to experience things in the theater…if you can’t wait…I’m pretty sure this is the description of the trailer.  Here’s what we were sent…

Alight sir, here it is. I’m doing this on my phone so I’m sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes.

-Trailer opens with studio logos set on top of the blue flame from Dark Knight.

Start panning up some buildings, but to screen card. EVERY HERO HAS A JOURNEY.

Cuts to a shot from Begins with Bruce walking up to that Village when he’s looking for Ra’s

Ra’s voice over: If you make yourself more than just a man. If you devout yourself to be ideal. And you become something else entirely. A legend Mr. Wayne….A LEGEND!

Cut to Gordon in a hospital bed laying on his side. Looks to be in serious pain. Has A breathing mask on. Is talking to someone.

Gordon: We were in this together, then you were gone…….Now this Evil rises. The Batman…..HAS to come back.(all this is said in a very raspy voice, in much pain)

Bruce/Batman(its not shown who he’s talking to, so don’t know in which form Bruce is visiting him in. My guess would be as Bruce Wayne) : What if he doesn’t exist anymore?

This part is the hardest to understand in the entire trailer, I listened to it at least 10 times but the score is over powering here and Gordon is having trouble talking. It sounds like if says Humor me while trying to laugh. I might be wrong here, full disclosure.

During this quick talk we’re shown a shot of the bat cycle when it drives up the ramp from Dark Knight, Gordon destroying the Act Signal all cut in with the Hospital. As well as super fast flashes of Bane’s face.

Pan up crumbling buildings to reveal the teaser poster, the camera zooms to the white opening and on an all white screen the title appears. The score reaches a fever pitch before turning over to The chanting from the website.

Fades to black and then we see Batman backing away from something, then Bane enters from the left side of the screen. Very quick shot then the trailers done.

So what do you think?  If this ends up being true, I’m going to lose my shit this weekend.

I call bullshit. Sounds way too corny. Also since when did Nolan start using title cards? Not his style.

    • Bradley

To all the people who keep saying it is not Nolans Style. He may be the Director, but he doesn’t make the Trailers, the Production Company has film editors who do, Nolan takes a look at it and really doesn’t have too much Jurisdiction over the trailers, especially when Warner Bros allows editors for TV Spots, Nolan can’t say nothing. About 5 Inception TV Spots were shit and made Inception look like a comedy, so obviously Nolan doesn’t supervise trailer editing.

Journay is a French Canadian Journey cover band right?
Their rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing is legendary.

  • superman

Anyone notice the Superman logo on the building at 8 o’clock?

    • ruth

My friend pointed that out earlier today about the Superman logo, but it’s sooo blurry and obscure it might be just pure coincidence.

      • Jon

That’s a blurry piece of rubble falling. It’s closer to the foreground than the building

  • Stephen Monteith

This is sounding a little like the sort of teaser trailer George Lucas would create. Surely, whatever Nolan creates will be legendary; but this? Gotta be a rough cut, at best.

  • AlexHeyNa

The dialogue and title cards are far too corny for Nolan’s style. Besides, the studio keeps the reel for the trailer locked in a box and the theaters don’t get the key to unlock until the day the trailer is being released (because Nolan is the master of secrecy). It is impossible for this person to have seen it.

    • theBudders

Alright, so this commented is directed mostly at the people claiming that the trailer could not possibly have been seen yet. I work at my local movie theatre, and am a projectionist. Yes, we have recieved 3 full prints of Harry Potter 7.2, as well as a Digital Copy (delivered on a hard drive, password encrypted (which isnt given to us until the day before the film is allowed to be shown)). Now while I cannot confirm the legibility of the description of this trailer as we haven’t recieved any film versions of the trailer as the trailer will only air on the digital version, I can tell you that, A) the trailer WILL be attached to it, and B) people can very easily have seen this. While we cannot actually access and play the digital version without the password, it can still be hooked up and shows up on the feed display, and as with any other movie it lists all commercials and trailers attached to it. TDKR is one of them. Also, about my second point, there are multiple ways someone could’ve seen it. There have been TONS of pre-screenings already done, just check rottentomatoes for proof to see already over 60 reviews. Otherwise, as a projectionist like myself, if I were to know anything about cracking passcodes or keygens or whatever it would be very easy to bring in a laptop, hook up the hard drive, and get the content off of it. The passcode is sent to us as a zip file containing the passcode which is then simply put on a USB drive and plugged into the computer as well.

All in all, it is very possible that this trailer description is legitimate. That’s all I’m saying.

  • Duncan Houst

It’s fake. how do I know? Because he said he had to listen to it 10 times, there’s no way he could’ve recorded it with all the hype out there, and the dialogue sounds WAY too corny. Nolan would never type “Now this evil rises”. That’s just stoopid.

And panning out to the poster? That’s just lame.

Also, it hasn’t been attached to any prints of Potter, so it’s clearly coming with the midnight release. Nolan keeps things close to the chest.

  • Joe

I’m skeptical, mostly because it sounds like a fan trailer with all the recycled footage from BB & TDK.

However, if it is the real trailer….I bet that guy who we saw in a stunt photo wearing a business suit and mask was Bruce Wayne, sneaking in/out of a hospital room to visit Gordon.

My theory is that Bruce shuts down Batman in the wake of TDK’s events. The police are hunting for Batman with no luck, until someone discovers his true identity (Hugo Strange perhaps). Then Bruce becomes a fugitive. So he can’t move around as Batman as that draws attention, and he can’t be seen as Wayne. So he has to sneak in to see Gordon.

I’ve read rumors that Wayne is possibly in jail and there could be some more action in the interrogation room. Having his identity revealed would explain his being arrested.

In the absence of Batman, Gotham falls apart and become ripe for the return of the League of Shadows, who’ve already begun their infiltration (Miranda Tate). The collapsing Gotham is what Gordon speaks of that “Batman…HAS to come back.”

This idiot gets the prize for providing far and away the most moronic fake teaser description on the web. This is wrong on so many levels I might have to start cutting myself just to feel better.

    • oh noooo!

the trailer is real…. sooo… start cuttung hahhahhha

  • Travis

I think what he’s saying is its the shot from kid poster, I could be wrong though. It sounds legitimate to me

Fake or not, I enjoyed reading it! Can’t wait until this weekend to see the official trailer!!

  • Jebus

Its already confirmed that there will be teaser this friday. The trailer has been classified by a rating board.

  • Slash Keagen

I read this is what it looks like.

It starts off with the usual studio titles.

Then it’s essentially the same tracking shot. It starts out tracking on the ground and gradually pans up the body of Hardy as Bane as he’s making his way down a long corridor. We’re not certain where he’s at but I would imagine it’s Arkham because the hallway is reminiscent of what it looked like in Batman Begins. As we’re walking we hear Hardy as Bane start his lines of dialogue. It’s spaced out to last the entire rest of the teaser.

“When you hear your city, and these people….”

It levels out to Bane’s head and continues following him with audio of sirens and explosions gradually getting louder and louder as he makes his way to the end hallway.

It starts to become more clear that the wall at the end of the hallway has been completely destroyed and is wide open. Bane walks to the edge of the hallway and stops but the camera continues outside where we see a good portion of the city below is complete dismay.

“…the sirens. I want you to think of one thing.”

Buildings are crumbling and the city streets are destroyed with random fires broken out over all of the city.

The camera continues out until it gradually starts panning higher and higher. The music builds up until the Bat symbol becomes clear in the sky. Music hits it’s maximum point and we cut to black. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES title fades in.

    SUMMER 2012.

Some of the dialogue might be different. I had to try and memorize it as I typed it.

    • skivington

wow. hoping to hell this is the real one. that was awesome.

    • wev

hahaha really?! we’ll get back to you on that…honestly

    • Interloper

Ah man. I was hoping this would be legit. Not that the actual teaser is bad.
      Don’t post fake shit man.

The poor dialogue is probably cut together from different scenes, which makes it sound worse than it will be. Also, “title cards aren’t Nolan’s style”? Uh, you do know that Nolan doesn’t make his own trailers, right? A director has very little control over how their product is marketed.

    • charliebronson

“a director has very little control over how their product is marketed”

is this is statement based on fact or idiocy?

do you really think christopher nolan has very little control over his “products”? c’mon-your smarter than this

why do you think he strives for such a high level of secrecy, for his own private amusement?

    • Mike

I don’t know about all that I’m pretty sure Nolan has a good enough track record to influence how his product is marketed I mean look at how JJ Abrams influenced the way Super 8 was pushed out there… Paramount was terrified but for the most part they shrouded it in secrecy like Abrams wanted to

      • YourDumb

All you smack talkers have got to be the biggest virgins on the planet. You are all talking about the trailer and the marketing like you have the slightest clue of what you’re talking about. I’m so happy that this trailer did turn out to be real, because it proves you are a bunch off fake pieces of crap, and over emotional virgins. And by the way, it is not Christopher Nolan’s Product. All rights are owned by Warner Brothers. They can replace him right now if they wanted to. You should just stick to the things in life that you understand…like masturbation.

To add to what @jak123456 said…

If you go to the larger high res version of the teaser poster, it allows you to zoom in on different areas. If you check it out, you’ll notice all kinds of different imagery etched into the buildings

-In the middle of the 2nd to last the front view bldg. on the left side, you see 2 cat silhouettes.

-On the upper middle part of he 2nd to last front view bldg. on the ride side, you see what partially looks like the design on Banes mask, as well as running in stride on top of it.

-That’s all in addition to what looks like the Jokers face on the right side of the poster, as well as what looks like the superman symbol on the bottom left.

I might be reaching a bit but who gives a shit. To each his own. Probably all just a mirage.

    “every hero has an end”
That title makes utterly no sense at all. Grammatically or figuratively. If someone has got away with putting a title card that terrible in the teaser trailer for this movie I’ll be extremely worried.

    • Carlos A. (Colombia)

The transcript is wrong… it’s not “every hero has an end”… it’s “every legend has an end”

      • Carlos A. (Colombia)

Sorry I was also mistaken… it was *Journey

i hope someone puts up a version of the poster with all this imagery highlighted.

I assume it would be “Every hero has a Journey” and “Every JOURNEY has an end”

Because the way its listed above doesn’t doesn’t make a lick o’ sense.

    If its real at all.

  • GottMeWrong

I have to agree with some of the others here who doubt this trailer description.
I base that on the screen card that reads: THE EPIC CONCLUSION
That alone speaks nothing of Nolan’s style and approach.
I cant imagine that he would follow such a ground breaking film as TDK with this described teaser. But, I could be wrong. This might turn out to be his ‘Godfather III’

    • GottMeWrong

I am eating my words, and actually happy to do so! The trailer description is spot on correct. The trailer was leaked online today and I saw it and its exactly as mentioned. Whats even better is that when you see it, its so much better than what you expect. I guess reading the screen cards and trying to imagine it on screen just doesn’t sync. The last shot of batman backing away from Bane makes the hair on my neck stand up.

  • Travis

I think frosty posted no Twitter earlier that he was given proof that this is the trailer. I agree with the above poster that its Every Journey has an end

  • Joe

I know I’m probably not the only one who found this but if you record yourself reading this “trailer synopsis” and play it backwards you hear the first 2 minutes of dialogue from TDKR. That’s as believable as warner bros saying okay to this dog crap idea for a teaser trailer.

Oh yeah not to spoil all the surprises but after the HP7 credits Harry gets recruited by Samuel L Jackson to join the avenger initiative too. SMH

  • Harry

Its just a poster with buildings crumbling to look like the bat symbol… You’re all looking into this way too much. It’s not a puzzle. As for the teaser trailer this weekend. Just wait till this weekend and you’ll find out. Chill the fuck out. The movie comes out in a year. Speculate all you want and you’re still going to be surprised when the movie actually comes out…. And the Superman sign in the rock…. Really? Its a fucking rock.

Its Gordon lying in bed, plain as day. Bane doing speed pushups in his cell, last shot looked cool but overall nothing but a tease. just what a trailer a year out from release should be. stop bitching over a minute of clips from past movies. Nolan has kept us in the dark for most of his movies and they haven’t disappointed. If you’re reading this far down in the comments, chances are you’re a big fan. Trust in Nolan to make a good movie, pique your interest sometime next February or March and not give it all away.
