The 2nd Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES May Be Attached to SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS

Folks craving a longer look at Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises are going to get their wish provided they go see Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 70mm IMAX. But if seeing TDKR’s prologue isn’t enough, Batman on Film is reporting that the new trailer could be attached to prints of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Hold this in the rumor pile for now, but I absolutely believe it. The reason I trust this story is because two years ago when the first Sherlock Holmes came out, it had the second trailer for Inception. Furthermore, it’s been about six months since the teaser and Game of Shadows is one of Warner Bros. winter tentpoles. The timing is right, the feature is right, and I believe BoF is right.

I’m also betting we’ll hear confirmation on this story in the next few weeks. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

I thought everyone could already guess this by now. Sherlock Holmes is a huge Warner Bros. franchise and a lot of people are going to see it, and it corresponds with the marketing of The Dark Knight. The only other logical Warner Bros. movie to put a Dark Knight Rises trailer onto is Harry Potter…oh wait.

Thank god. I’d rather pay to see Sherlock Holmes to get my TDKR fix than Mission Impossible.
