2 New TV Spots for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Shows New Footage of Bane, Batman, Alfred, Catwoman and the Bat-Wing

     May 23, 2012

It turns out that American Idol is still good for some things, like airing this new TV spot for The Dark Knight RisesChristopher Nolan’s epic final piece to his Batman trilogy is now less than two months away, but don’t expect the marketing to stop any time soon.  We recently posted some new images, a slew of character posters and even the Tumbler and Bat-Pod on tour in all their gritty glory.  This new TV spot gives us a better look at the Bat-Wing, which is good, since pretty much all we knew about it before was “it’s not a car.” There are also some new shots of Tom Hardy’s Bane accompanied by some dialogue I had to listen to twice to understand.  Some good shots of Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and Michael Caine’s Alfred sharing some dialogue.  What are you waiting for? Hit the jump to check it out! [Updated with a second TV spot featuring Catwoman.]

Check out the new TV spot below (via Batman-News), followed by a recap of our previous coverage and the official synopsis.  The Dark Knight Rises, also starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Marion Cotillard, opens July 20th.

And here’s another new TV spot featuring Hathaway’s Catwoman:

    “Gotham, this is your liberation”

    Really, it isn’t THAT difficult.

And I love this new footage :)

    • Dave Trumbore

I guess I just couldn’t hear it over my girlish, excited squee’ing.

      • Travis

        LOL…touche, sir.

  • me.writer

I think a new catwoman-centric spot aired during modern family too

  • Griz

    That was AWESOME!

Especially since Trailer #3 was just the 6 min imax prologue pieced together with earlier trailers. Well done, marketing team!

    • Yeti Murphy

what are you talking about? there was tons of new footage in trailer 3. basically all of the footage of john blake and selina kyle was brand new, as well as the bat doing a barrell roll, the bridges collapsing, batman and bane’s fight on the walkway… i would say that trailer was 50-60 percent unseen footage

  • Strong Enough

    can’t wait.

    movie of the year.

    Nolan have my money!

    • Thundersauresrex

If this fails your not gunna like drown yourself in your bath tub are you?

      • Griz

Not every disappointed person reacts the way your mom did when she held you for the first time, thunder.

      • Thundersauresrex

My mom actually came down with HIV and then slit her wrists and bled out in the kitchen…….but thanks for that

      • Griz

Awww . . . I’m sorry to hear that thunder. What was her final Viral Load & CD 4 count?

      • Thundersauresrex

Bout the same count as a i just pumped into your mom. happy birthday GRIZ.

    • Snakebitey

I don’t think it will be the movie of the year. Avengers will be the best its made over a billion dollars already

  • Adam Isaretard

Bane’s voice sounds wack. They need to keep it extra creepy, not so british.

  • Singularity

Those are great. There is a definite urgency to Bruce’s pleas in the first… contrasting the epic scope seen in the trailers. It’s nice to see some of the tactical stuff starting to come through.

… and are we seeing F-15′s taking out Gotham’s bridges, or is that just CAP/CAS over a wrecked Gotham?

  • Travis

I’m losing my damn fool mind over all this wonderful bounty. Two surprise TV spots…exactly how many more are coming our way?

Bring it. My body is ready.

    • rutvig

@Travis: Your comments have made my day man. Hil-ari-OUS!

  • BOF!

I need to stop compulsively watching this deluge of new promotional material. It’s going to be tough to ignore, but I think going in with no expectations is going to make the experience that much better. Oh, and Bane’s voice is clear as day now, good to hear.

  • sense 11

Oh yes that will hold me over for a while. I need to see this movie

  • CJ

Tom Hardy sounds like he’s imitating Viggo Mortensen in A Dangerous Method…

  • oaktreeradar

I like that they’re showing the humor now, maybe in response to the avengers. Anyway now I feel like I’m on the edge of seeing too much and should probably go dark on anything else until I’m in the theater. And I’m quitting smoking. Tomorrow.

  • J-rad

Am I the only one that feels they gave a bit to much of a hint towards the basic plot of the movie , with all the “Back in the game” comments ?

I am hoping Nolan has twisted the plot differently from what I am putting together from all the promo material and footage in my mind

I ain’t going to lie, I wasn’t feeling this sh**!
It seemed cliched, rushed and by-the -numbers.

  • mattedscreen

$10 says Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Batman at some point in this thing… gotta feel’n is all. Why else have him? Someone who judging from trailers looks up to Batman in a city without him – he’s gotta at least try to take on the mantle.

    • AlexHeyNa

So are you gonna wire me the $10, or how’s that gonna work?

      • ?rIDdlEr ¿

        he’s just a cop!!!!!

      • mattedscreen

We could make arrangements, I got a slew of starbucks gift cards I’ll never use, would that work?

  • Eric Nixon

I’m so glad these spots are a lot lighter than the trailers. After seeing how dark the trailers were, I was starting to worry that TDKR was going to be super dramatic from stat to finish. Especially compared to how fun The Avengers was.

I don’t think JGL is gonna turn into night wing, he’s just a cop. I also agree with others that alfred dies in this one.

  • ?rIDdlEr ¿

To clarify why i don’t think JGL won’t be night wing, Nolan is making it clear that he won’t leave anything unfinished or unclear by the end of this movie. This batman univers is over after this movie to have JGL be batman would mean that this universe would continue, the studio is rebooting it in a different style with different actors

WOW!!!!! Looks like they *finally* got the Bruce Wayne character right. Christian Bale looks great interjecting some humor and humanity into the role. More or less the only thing that I truly feel is superior about the Burton/Keaton Batman is that Bruce really *is* a playboy and by the time we find Keaton in that film, he’s got his huge collection of weird armor in the hall where he meets Vicky Vale. He’s not just spending his money as a cover, he’s settled into both being The Batman, as well as being Bruce Wayne. It’s great to see a sterile Bruce Wayne who isn’t still recovering from tragedy. The humanity just in those eyebrow lifts is all the convincing I need to know this is going to be the hands down best of the series.

…really sad to see Bale & co. leave the franchise just as it reaches its potential :(
