I think I’ve gushed enough about Darren Aronofsky. If you’re a regular reader of the site you know that I think he’s amazing. For all you first time visitors: I think he’s amazing. He’s one of those directors where I don’t want to see him do a franchise movie or an adaptation of a popular work not because he couldn’t do it, but because I find his original work far more inspiring.
That inspiration may be slightly dangerous since he’s been hired to direct a movie based on the true story of the world’s biggest heist. Get in, get out, and hit the jump to learn more.
Based off the Sports Illustrated article “Breaking the Bank” by Jon Wertheim and the nonfiction book “Heist: The Inside Story of the World’s Biggest Robbery” by Howard Sounes, the currently untitled film tells of the heist of over $85 million dollars from a warehouse belonging to the Securitas company in Tonbridge, Kent. A large number of people have been charged in connection to the robbery with eleven men and women standing trial in 2007.
This story coupled with a talented ensemble could make for a great film. With Aronofsky on board it’s pretty much a lock so I really only have two questions:
1.) They keep that amount of money in a warehouse? Is it like the Ark of the Covenant where you just bury it among other crap and hope no one finds it.
2.) Did “Securitas” keep their name? I really hope they did.
Aronofsky is currently at work on “Black Swan” starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and angry lesbian sex.

The story of this heist is extremely interesting. It was supposedly masterminded by Lee Murray, a British mma fighter. He was building a nice career & even had a win in the UFC.
He’s currently in a Moroccan jail & there’s a great ESPN E:60 episode still on ESPN.com dedicated to this story.
