Darren Aronofsky May Produce/Direct George Washington Pic THE GENERAL for Paramount

     April 17, 2012

Although there has been a lot of talk lately regarding Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, the sure-fire director may have another project lined up that’s a bit more grounded.  Paramount, in part of a first-look deal with Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures, is looking to land him as a producer and director for The General, a George Washington picture scripted by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (both of Tower Heist).  Variety reports that The General is said to be in the vein of Unforgiven and not a straightforward historical drama.  Aronofsky is also reportedly eyeing The Weinstein Co.’s Judy Garland biopic, Get Happy, with Anne Hathaway set to star.  We’ll have to wait and see whether or not Paramount seals the deal or if other studios will get a shot at the Oscar-nominated director.

typical Aronofsky. getting attached to EVERYTHING. the fact is, you don’t believe Aronofsky making “anything” until he’s on set with the actors— directing(then he’ll finish that movie NO MATTER WHAT. even if there’s budget problems).

he already let go of a lot of projects. even the Jen Lawrence/Bradley Cooper period drama was once attached to Aronofsky. He’s also attached to the Jackie Kennedy project with his ex-wife Rachel Weisz as the lead(don’t know if that’s still on since they’re divorced now). also, a potential studio action blockbuster Machine Man(something he flirted over the years with Batman, Robocop and Wolverine).

let him do Noah, then we’ll see.
