News just broke that David Goyer, heavily involved in Christopher and Jonathan Nolan’s other DC franchise (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), will be writing the next Superman film, according to Latino Review. Goyer has extensive experience with comic book films adapted to the big screen, and even wrote and directed Blade: Trinity. No, he likely won’t be directing this, but it does appear that this is one step closer to getting a good Superman flick.
For various plot details and who won’t be involved with the film, hit the jump.
According to the article, Thomas Tull, Legendary Pictures’ Chairman, approached Goyer and Goyer was actually willing to play ball and provided an interesting premise that is a back to basics approach, described as “modern…believable…fun!” Still with us? They also reveal that the film will be titled The Man of Steel, and will not involve Brandon Routh, Nicolas Cage, Mark Millar, and likely won’t see Bryan Singer return to the helm.
So far, pretty damn good.
Next, Latino Review provides this overview:
“I can tell you that Goyer’s story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology.”
Overall, this is one step closer to a quality Superman film. With Christopher Nolan providing guidance on the film, and Goyer involved, it seems DC is trying to remind audiences that they can make a great film out of their other tent-pole franchise.

Not a fan of the Luthor concept. That'll make 5 out of 6 films modern-day films that he'll be the (a) villain.
I just want to say that I actually loved Singer's Superman. He basically remade the Christopher Reeve original. I guess that's why I like it.
Which was also probably its downfall. It was too neat, too tame. It worked in the 70's but that tone just won't work these days.
As for the new Superman, I like what I am hearing except for Lex Luthor. I am tired of that villain. IF it's not an origin story and they are gonna assume we know the character, then spice it up with another bad guy.
Aint It Cool News just reported that this story by Latino Review is bullcrap. David Goyer is involved buit hasnt been named as the writer.
HitFix reported that earlier today through their “contact” as well. However, Drew at HitFix also pointed out that Goyer WILL likely be attached to the project, but just not now.

Goyer is attached as writer with Nolan attached to Exec Produce.
However, I am hopeful that we see a return of Routh and Bosworth. The two actors had chemistry and were well cast for their roles.
Since the idea is that “Man of Steel” isn't going to be a reboot movie, there is no need to recast the title role, just keep rolling with what the audience knows. The fact that the creative team from the Batman movies are in involved should be enough to keep asses in seats regardless of the Superman Returns cast.
Hey guys this is off topic but I just watched Empire Strikes Back. And I have a question. At the end why is Lando wearing Hans clothes? Panitrol Pain Relief
Come on… people are tired of watching “Lex Luthor” in every superman film. Do Not put Luthor’s character in the film just show some new villian and a totolly modern day fresh take.
I was tired of The Joker…until I saw what Nolan did with the character.
I’ll go with whatever the guy wants to put up on screen! He’s that good! If I see it, and it sucks, I’ll be shocked.
Please just delegate Luthor to a secondary character. I’d actually be okay with delaying the introduction of Brainiac if it meant we could remove Luthor from the focus. Bizzaro or Mxyptlk would rock. How about Darkseid?
Either way, this sounds like a good movie.
I’d quite like to see Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum though. They each played amazing Clark Kents / Lex Luthors respectively, in Smallville. Would be good to see -their- chemistry on the Big screen!
