Sony Sets Christmas Release Date for David O. Russell’s ABSCAM Film Starring Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence

     March 12, 2013

Sony Pictures has given Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell’s next film a prime awards season release date later this year.  The untitled project (formerly known as American Bullshit) will hit theaters in limited release on December 13th before going wide on Christmas Day.  The pic is based on a real-life undercover sting operation called Abscam, which was set up in the 1980s by a con artist working for the FBI who rooted out corruption in Congress.

The cast reads like a “Best Of” from Russell’s filmography, as Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale are set in the leads with Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Louis C.K., Jeremy Renner, and Alessandro Nivola (Face/Off) rounding out the ensemble.  Hit the jump for more.

Russell’s Abscam project will undoubtedly be a player in this year’s awards race, and marks one of two Cooper/Lawrence films slated for release in 2013 alongside the period pic Serena.  Sony also has their hands full with 2013 awards contenders as they’re also set to release George Clooney’s star-studded WWII film The Monuments Men, the Tom Hanks-fronted true story Captain Phillips, and Moneyball director Bennett Miller’s drama Foxcatcher with Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo.

On Christmas Day, the untitled Russell film will face off against the Keanu Reeves samurai pic 47 Ronin, the Chris Pine actioner Jack Ryan, and Ben Stiller’s comedy remake The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which also stars Kristen Wiig.

But it does makes sense if you read the plot. I’m sure she will have a good chemistry with CB :)
17years age difference is not that creepy.

How many films do you see where there is a 22 year old male and 38 year old female in a relationship; It’s not mentioned in the plot of the film? It’s just another double standard in hollywood…….young women are mature enough for it but young males are to dumb to handle it.

Plus jennifer lawrence had no chemistry with no one in the SLP or THG

I’m usually okay with stuff like this and I’m perfectly fine with Lawrence playing teenager and 30ish characters simultaneously… But yeah, this one actually bugs me too. It’s still bot official that Bale will be in The Ends of the Earth though.

Since she had great chemistry with Bradley and Michael Fassbender in X-Men, I’m sure she’ll be find with Christian.
