David Twohy to Write and Direct Action Thriller THE LEONARDO JOB for Alcon Entertainment

Alcon Entertainment has acquired writer/director David Twohy’s script for the action thriller The Leonardo Job. Per the press release, Twohy is also attached to direct the pic for Alcon which will finance and produce the film. Perhaps best known for his work on the Riddick franchise, Twohy has written and directed both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick and is looking to begin production soon enough on the as of yet untitled third installment. There is no word on when The Leonardo Job is looking to begin production and/or whether or not it will affect production on the third Riddick.

According to the press release, The Leonardo Job will center on two rival thieves who are hired to track down da Vinci’s “The Battle of Anghiari” painting. As the story goes, the two are eventually forced to work together upon discovering that they aren’t the only ones eyeing the work. LOS ANGELES, CA., SEPTEMBER 8, 2011–Financing and production company Alcon Entertainment is in final negotiations to acquire, finance and produce the David Twohy (“The Fugitive,” “Pitch Black,” “G.I. Jane,”) screenplay THE LEONARDO JOB, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Twohy is attached to direct as well.

An action thriller about the heist of the “lost” Leonardo da Vinci painting “The Battle of Anghiari”; the story involves two rival master thieves hired to go to Florence to track down the “mythical” painting. These experts use high tech and old tricks to prove the painting exists and pinpoint its location – hidden behind another masterpiece.  They are forced to combine skills when their schemes to steal the painting get more complicated and dangerous after they discover they are not the only ones pursuing the hidden treasure.

Michael Nathanson, Joseph Farrell and Catherine Paura will produce along with Johnson and Kosove.

Producers Nathanson, Farrell and Paura say “We are excited to be working with David Twohy and to be making our second movie with Alcon on “The Leonardo Job” because it is one of those movies with all the elements that make for an exciting and compelling entertainment worldwide”.

The producers have just completed making “Joyful Noise” with Alcon to be released in January 2012.

Twohy is represented by Robert Lazar (ICM) and attorney Mark Temple.
