What does one do after directing four highly successful films in one of the biggest franchises in movie history?  For David Yates, director of the last four Harry Potter movies, the answer is: sign a first-look deal with the selfsame studio.  Variety reports that Yates signed the deal under the Wychwood Pictures banner.  Priority for Yates at the moment is Your Voice in My Head, an adaptation of the Emma Forrest memoir that has Emma Watson and Stanley Tucci attached. Forrest is writing the screenplay for the picture, which chronicles her dealings with a failed romance after the death of her psychiatrist.

  • wah?

what is a first-look deal and what is Wychwood Pictures. What happened to Cicero or Dr. Who? I’m sorry I don’t speak ‘film’

  • Mr Potter

A first look deal is a contract which states that Warner Bros. is allowed to have the first look at David Yates’ upcoming projects and they’ll decide whether they would want to distribute them or not. Wychwood Pictures is Yates’ production company (I think).

And as far as I’m aware, Cicero and Dr Who are still in the works, although Dr Who is not for another six or seven years yet. Cicero is likely to begin filming sometime next year.
