DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Behind-the-Scenes Video Shows the Evolution from Man to Ape and Gives an Early Listen to Michael Giacchino’s Score

Why hasn’t Andy Serkis landed at least an Oscar nomination, again?  Yes, I know the argument against him is one part computer-aided performances and one part old-fashioned academy voters, but as this new behind-the-scenes video from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes shows, there’s rather a lot of human expression beneath the apes’ hairy, computer-generated exterior.  If nothing else, this short video will introduce you to the various hero apes by name (though it leaves the names of the actors on the sidelines).  As a bonus, you’ll also get a taste of composer Michael Giacchino’s score in this sample.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Amazing the way they just do all that mo-cap on set and on location, and they get to shoot it the way a movie should be shot, and directed as such,

REALLY looking forward to this movie!!! But, never understood the whole “Serkis should get an oscar!!” mantra. This clip clearly shows that the animators use his performance as a template, which they then build upon and even change at times (notice Caesar’s mouth and nose – moves differently at times from what Serkis did). It’s mostly the head and eye movement that is replicated exactly.

I could do what Andy Serkis does anyday. Even the bloody Gollum voice. He knows the stuff he uses. That’s it.

The music sounds something from Star Trek

Meh they don’t say much at least the site I’m on – they never do. Why can’t things run like the military? Anybody can join diploma or no. Just show up, sign up and you’re in it for the duration. I mean they want a CV – what’s a 17 year old going to put on a CV?! Skateboarder. Oh yeah I’m in.
