Many were skeptical of 2011’s franchise reboot/prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but the film actually turned out to be a smart, fun, and fascinating summer sci-fi blockbuster.  By starting at the beginning, 20th Century Fox promised an intriguing series of films that would trace the beginnings of the apes uprising—something we haven’t yet seen on film—and so anticipation has been high for the follow-up, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) takes over the franchise with the latest installment, picking up 10 years after the events of Rupert Wyatt’s first film.

The pic had its world premiere last night, and the response from those in attendance has been very, very good, with many calling it one of the best films of the summer, if not the year.  After the jump, we’ve rounded up some of the Twitter responses to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  The film opens in theaters on July 11th.  Click here to watch 5 clips and 10 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage.

Here are some of the responses to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from last night’s screening:

Think I’ll skip Transformers 4 and save my money for this film!

    • Liderc

Probably smart, T4 was not good

Ugh…I promised my 7 year old I’d take him to see it before I read any reviews.

      • Grendal Sven

I got out voted by my 13 year old and my 37 year old with the mentality of a 13 year old girlfriend. T4 was bad, but it wasn’t terrible.

    Wow. Can not wait. :)
Such a brilliant original start in the first movie and it looks like this is continuing with a sequel that really couldn’t be a rehash by nature but remains impressive on its own.

    • Royale With Cheese

I definitely enjoyed the first one minus Malfoy and the very underused and often underutilized James Franco.

  • Ted

very happy to hear good word from this film, could not be more excited!

  • PrimoAlonso

    HAIL CAESAR !

  • The Exploiter

    I NEED…TO SPEAK….TO SCREENERS!

  • JCubs79

Can’t wait for this movie. Between, this, Edge of Tomorrow and Snowpiercer, Sci-fi has had a really strong year.

    • Zack Snyder

We are gonna cap of the year with INTERSTELLAR!

    • Reggie

      don’t forget Under the Skin!

    • ore

I would put The Congress on top

      • kale

We all know that Tom Cruise should win the Oscar for his performance in edge of tomorrow.

  • Bruno Silva

    SUPER HYPED!

  • Daniel Ronczkowski

I would have liked to see a few negative reactions(if there were any) just to see what the gripes were.

    • yrulaughing418

I expect the negative reviews to be something like “this movie has a silly premise and takes itself too seriously, it should be more of a B movie”

      • Nemesis11

        ‘humourless romp’ …

The trailer’s have been off the hook, the clip I watched last week convinced me, I need to see know more, I’m going to watch this movie.

  • Marissa Evans

Awesome. :) I knew they would top the first one.

  • Kaine Morrison

In my opinion: Tim Burton’s Reboot was better than the newer reboot!

    • pickaname

I am sorry you have that opinion.

    • Spanky

My condolences to you and your marsh mellow brain

    • yrulaughing418

What about the Burton movie’s jarring, non-sequitur ending?

      • Kaine Morrison

At least it HAD a WTF??? ending!

      • yrulaughing418

That’s my point, though, the ending had nothing to do with anything that happened earlier in the movie

      • MIXTER

It did have a WTF ending, but it was a WTF movie! As in WTF were they thinking?! .. However, it did i’ll admit have great makeup/costumes and visual flourishes. Loved the Ape armour. And so i can see where your coming from when you say you prefer it over rise. But this Dawn movie looks more ape world and i really hope they remake Planet of the Apes with this new set of films as its proper tie in, for continuity sake.

  • Royale With Cheese

This doesn’t surprise me one bit. This film has been my second most anticipated of this summer right after CA: The Winter Soldier, I’m glad it won’t disappoint.

  • Neo Racer

    Post movie rush reactions.

  • Person

I like Rise but always found it somewhat overrated. The potential for a sequel was huge, though, and I’ve stayed away from trailers and TV spots to see this one fresh. Really looking forward to it, especially now.

  • jocab_w

Devin is a big fan of the Apes franchise and is very knowledgeable about it, so I take his reaction as a good sign.

“20th Century Fox promised an intriguing series of films that would trace the beginnings of the apes uprising—something we haven’t yet seen on film.”
Uh, have they not heard of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes?
