So, you just watched the latest Deadpool 2 trailer for the umpteenth time. You have questions. Not so much, "What's up with the 27 Dresses nod?" but more like, "Who's that purple-haired girl with the electricity whip?" or, "Is Deadpool mocking the Wakanda salute or just making an X with his arms?" While we'll probably have to wait until David Leitch's film hits theaters on May 18th to know for sure--and since Ryan Reynolds is an ace at ADR, meaning he can overlay whatever dialogue he wants to thanks to the merc's mask--we can take a pretty good stab at a lot of the things revealed in the most recent trailer.

Some things are pretty obvious, like the return of cab driver Dopiner (Karan Soni). Others are less so, like what exactly the DMC is, if the "Purity. Humanity. Infinity." banners suggest the Purifiers will make an appearance, whether or not the pin-up calendar behind Deadpool in one scene is an Easter egg or not, and just what the explodey-looking collar around Deadpool's neck is all about. Some of those we'll just have to leave up to the film for an explanation, but others we feel pretty confident about. Let's get into it after a brief pause to revisit the film's official synopsis:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

X-Force and Miscellaneous Marvel Characters

Meet Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), who appears to be playing Noriko "Nori" Ashida, a mutant who's able to able to generate and manipulate electricity and also possesses super-speed. Going by the name of Surge (not that Surge, but I'm sure the joke can and will be made in this movie), the Xavier Institute student and New Mutants squad member was once the leader of the New X-Men and has had the occasional run-ins with X-Force since her introduction to Marvel Comics in 2004. (Hat tip to Inverse for this one.)

You should already know ^this guy^ since his name is in the frickin' movie title, but we wanted to highlight his temporary costume changes here. The first image, which probably occurs after some sort of massive explosion owing to the fiery carnage behind Deadpool, is reminiscent of his black-and-white X-Force costume, despite the fact that this is likely just his regular costume all charred up and covered in soot.

The second image is even sillier since it appears to be a black and gold pinny, maybe used for some sort of touch-football pick-up game amongst the newly minted X-Force team members. It's also a nod to one of that team's comic book costume designs, like the one Negasonic Teenage Warhead is rocking below, or like what X-Force member Strong Guy wore at times.

Brianna Hildebrand returns as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Duh.

Franchise-newcomer Josh Brolin will arrive to antagonize more Marvel characters in Deadpool 2--which drops after his turn as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War--this time as Nathan Summers, a.k.a. Cable. Cable's got an uber-complicated backstory, but for the telling of this tale, it suffices to say that he's a time-traveler bent on fixing/changing timelines by any means necessary. In Deadpool 2, he's going after Julian Dennison's character (seen below), though it's not confirmed just who Dennison is playing. In the comics, Cable was the first leader of the militant X-Force team; will he be booting Deadpool out of his own clubhouse in a sequel, or will he team up with the Merc with a Mouth and let the younger guns run X-Force? Stay tuned!

Dennison's character, though officially unconfirmed, shows off some serious pyrokinetic powers in both of the movie's trailers. The X-Men universe has no shortage of firebrands--Pyro, Sunspot, Match, Firefist, and even a recent incarnation of Thunderbird--so your guess is as good as ours when it comes to Dennison's character. Sunspot is probably out since Henry Zaga is already playing the Roberto da Costa alter ego in 20th Century Fox's The New Mutants. While any of those other characters are possibilities, we're maybe leaning towards the Neal Shaara version of Thunderbird: He's the X-Men's first Indian team member, struggled early on with control of his incredible powers, and eventually began to master them under another familiar Marvel mutant time-traveler, Bishop. Leslie Uggams returns as Blind Al, who's just the best.

Morena Baccarin returns as Vanessa Carlysle, though it's unclear if she'll get to take a turn as the shapeshifter Copycat this time around.

Stefan Kapicic also returns to voice (one of my personal favorites) Colossus.

Here we see James McAvoy as Professor X.  Deadpool chilling in the Xavier mansion and taking the Prof's chair for a spin.

All hail Terry Crews! It's criminal that Crews hasn't starred in a superhero movie until now but Deadpool 2 is about to change that. The problem is ... we don't know who he's playing. There's good money on Crews as Eisenhower Canty, a.k.a. Hammer, a former mercenary member of Cable's "Six Pack" (which included Deadpool and Domino, BTW) who was betrayed by his leader (and vice versa, arguably), was left paralyzed, and then went seeking vengeance once he recuperated. He later joined up with Domino, forgave Cable, and returned to mercenary missions. It's possible Deadpool 2 could compress this story down to introduce Crews on Cable's side, only to wind up pushing him over to Deadpool's X-Force team instead. Lacking mutant abilities, he's blessed with a photographic memory, for what it's worth.

Another non-powered possibility for Crews is that of G.W. Bridge, another of Rob Liefeld's co-creations. The skilled hand-to-hand and firearms combatant and expert strategist was part of another of Cable's mercenary bands, the Wild Pack. They later changed their name to, you guessed it, Six Pack since that team name was already taken (making for a super obscure in-joke for comic fans if the movie includes this). Or maybe Crews is playing another character entirely...

Fans have known for a good while that Zazie Beetz would be arriving in Deadpool 2 as Domino, and all signs point to this being a super-fun part for her. Her mutant ability to influence probability, along with excellent marksmanship, agility, reflexes, and fighting skills, make her a perfect asset for the original X-Force team.

But she also appears in images next to some other interesting surprises!

That's Domino riding next to Bill Skarsgard who hasn't yet been officially confirmed as a cast member, nor has his character been confirmed. There are theories floating around out there, of course, such as Jonothon "Jono" Evan Starsmore a.k.a. Chamber, a British mutant who can shoot energy blasts from his chest and nearly blew himself up when using them for the first time, which would make a helluva quick appearance for Skarsgard and a funny outro for his character. And there's also the rumor that he's playing Axel Cluney, a.k.a. Zeitgeist, a sophomore X-Force team-member who can spew acidic vomit, which seems fitting in the Deadpool movie-verse. (Hat tip to Uproxx.)

You can glimpse Skarsgard alongside Beetz, Reynolds, and Crews below in an image from the previously released trailer, but don't sleep on Gaveedra-Seven, a.k.a. Shatterstar, the dual sword-wielding gentlemen in the headgear back in the shadows. All signs point to actor/martial artist Lewis Tan playing the role of the Mojoworld being who was genetically engineered to be a gladiatorial champion. (Deadpool 2 introducing the idea of Mojo, even in a tangent, could open up truly bonkers, otherwordly possibilities for future storytelling. And it could bring me the live-action Longshot appearance I've long been waiting for. )

Oh, and that mustachioed man next to Skarsgard in the picture above? That's Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), who can also be glimpsed in this headshot, presumably while Deadpool is researching potential X-Force recruits:

That goes a long way towards explaining this:

[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/VancityReynolds/status/892568808203862021?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw[/EMBED_TWITTER]

It's possible the "Peter" in question is Peter Wisdom, a British spy and former member of Excalibur who once had a romantic relationship with Kitty Pryde and was beaten almost to death by Colossus for it. He later joined up with X-Force.

BUT! There's also a shot of another headshot featuring the name "Bedlam", which is a mutant by the name of Jesse Aaronson with the ability to generate a bio-electromagnetic field, making him useful for disabling electronic equipment. He can also use his powers to scan energy fields and even scramble the human brain's neurochemistry. He's got ties to X-Force, Domino, and Peter Wisdom, as well as Mr. Sinister, so anything goes here. Could this actually be Crews' character in the movie? We think so, and the costume certainly matches up. (And yeah, if you slow down the trailer enough, there's no mistaking Crews' smile, even if it's blurred. He's Bedlam.)

FYI, Skarsgard and Eddie Marsan, who was confirmed as appearing in Deadpool 2 in an undisclosed role, both starred in Leitch's hit film, Atomic Blonde. Could more former collaborators be appearing in the film as well? Might we get a Charlize Theron or ::gasp:: Keanu Reeves cameo? Time will tell!

Did we miss any? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
