Things seem to be ramping up on the Deadpool feature front. According to Deadline, Fox is testing out four actresses to see how they play opposite of Ryan Reynolds, who will star as the wisecracking mercenary Wade Wilson.
The long in-development movie is being directed by Tim Miller (his directorial debut), from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It was reported recently that it would begin filming in Vancouver in March.
Ryan Reynolds recently talked some about the budget for the movie, but has really remained tight-lipped about the project, only revealing that there would be lots of “tests.” And so, here we go.
The four actresses being considered are Morena Baccarin (Homeland), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf) and Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Red Band Society). Clearly, an interesting mix here already, and there may even more actresses joining that list. Stay tuned, as the story is still developing.
Update: Sarah Greene (Vikings) and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow) are also being considered.
Deadpool currently has a February 2016 release date.
