Not to be outdone by his costumed comic book counterparts appearing all over the net today, Deadpool stars front and center in a new image from the Ryan Reynolds-starrer. It finds the Merc with a Mouth standing amidst some general chaos - a flipped car, a flailing pedestrian, Deadpool poised with guns drawn. It's a pretty standard action shot as far as these movies go, and lacks the humorous touch of what has been an excellent marketing campaign for the mercenary movie so far. That being said, Comic-Con is almost upon us and this image is likely to be just the tip of the iceberg for the 20th Century Fox property's push as it rolls out over the next six months or so.

And if the film's rating was still in question, Deadpool producer Simon Kinberg answers it beautifully:

Deadpool is a hard R. It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

Debut feature director Tim Miller follows up on that:

“I felt Fight Club and Tyler Durden were good corollaries. We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

Scripted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool opens February 12, 2016, and also stars Ed Skrein as Ajax, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and T.J Miller as Weasel.

Here’s the official synopsis for Deadpool:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
