20th Century Fox’s comics adaptation Deadpool was undoubtedly one of the big winners of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, sending the crowd into a frenzy with a truly excellent R-rated footage reel from the film. Star Ryan Reynolds has said that an official trailer debut wasn’t far behind, and odds are very strong that it’ll hit sometime next week before playing in front of Fox’s Fantastic Four. But to tide you over until then, a trio of new images have been released online that offer a different kind of look at the Merc with a Mouth.
The film tells the origin story of the titular character as Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who is left with accelerated healing powers after a rogue experiment goes wrong. His terribly scarred face is subsequently covered up by a red mask, at which point he dons the mantle of “Deadpool.”
These new images provide a couple of new looks at Deadpool in his suit, as well as fellow mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead (played by Brianna Hildebrand), but the most revealing photo shows a pre-transformation Wilson with Morena Baccarin as the film’s female lead, Vanessa Carlysle. Check out the photos below, via Empire. Deadpool opens on February 12, 2016 and also stars Gina Carano, T.J. Miller, and Ed Skrein.
Here’s the official synopsis for Deadpool:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
