It's full steam ahead on the long-awaited, highly-anticipated film adaptation of the "Merc with a Mouth", Deadpool. 20th Century Fox has released the official logo and launched social media campaigns on twitter and Facebook - a fitting move given how open and interactive Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has been via social media. Earlier this week Reynolds shared the first look at his full costume via twitter, the biggest reveal since the actor started sharing regular teases with fans once production kicked off.

It seems the actor and the studio recognize that this film is the product of sheer force of fan will, both on behalf of Reynolds, who never stopped pursuing the film over the years, and fans at large, whose frenzied reaction to last year's leaked test footage helped finally get the project off the ground. Hopefully the star and the studio will continue to engage with that fanbase openly until the film hits theaters next year.

Deadpool also stars Morena Baccarin as Copycat, Gina Carano as the mutant Angel Dust and T.J. Miller as comedic pal Weasel. The film will be directed by Tim Miller (who also helmed that leaked test footage). The movie is filming now and opens in theaters on February 12, 2016. Check out the full-size logo below.

Here's the official synopsis:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
