What could very well be our first R-rated superhero movie of the post-Marvel era is currently in production in Vancouver, and Deadpool continues to look like a blast with each new peek behind-the-scenes. Star Ryan Reynolds shared a cheeky promo image of himself in costume to mark Mother’s Day yesterday, but today he’s revealed an action shot from the set of director Tim Miller’s Marvel Comics adaptation.

Reynolds stars as the titular comics character in the 20th Century Fox film, which will tell Deadpool’s origin story. He begins as Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who is left with accelerated healing powers after a rogue experiment goes wrong. His terribly scarred face is subsequently covered up by a red mask.

As you can see from this new image, even though Deadpool won’t have the massive budget of something like X-Men or Fantastic Four, we can expect plenty of action. I, for one, feel like this “scaled down” and edgier approach will offer a refreshing reprieve from the same old-same old superhero movie, and I'm eager to see what Miller and Reynolds have put together after years of development.

Check out the photo below, via Reynolds’ Instagram. The film also stars Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, and Gina Carano. Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.

Here’s the official synopsis for Deadpool:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
