Marvel Studios has put out an offer to director Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror) to helm their upcoming super-antihero flick Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds.  According to Production Weekly [via The Playlist].  Apparently, 20th Century Fox is happy with the work he's being doing on Machete and Predators, the latter of which he produced.  The studio offered him the upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Apes, but he passed.  He's also got his own film, Nervewrackers, on his plate.

The Deadpool movie is technically a spin-off of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it will (thankfully) act as if that movie never happened beyond bringing Ryan Reynolds back as the wise-cracking, psychopathic killer.  The script is being penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.  They've said that they'll stay true to the mythology of the character. I assume that means they'll have the character break the fourth-wall as he does in the comics.
