Director Dennis Iliadis (Last House on the Left) has signed on to direct The Demonologists.  The film tells the story of “a family of veteran ghost hunters who get more than they bargained for when they are called in to face what they soon realize is not a routine ghost job but a demon infestation.”  The film will be written by Teddy Tenenbaum, whose previous credits include a few episodes for the television series Ghost Whisperer and Dead Zone.  Hit the jump to read about Iliadis possibly directing a remake of The Birds.the_birds_movie_poster_alfred_hitchcockAccording to 24 Frames, Iliadis is also being considered for the Platinum Dunes remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, The Birds.  This is one of those projects which I feel I’ve been reading about for years now.  At one point, Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) was going to direct the film with Naomi Watts attached to star.  That film never materialized. When Steve spoke with producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller about the remake on the set of Nightmare on Elm Street, they said:

“We keep trying, but I don’t know. I mean, that’s such a… That’s so hard and to get the script right. We continue and we struggle and I just don’t have a ton to say about it until we’ve got something good.”

In December of 2009, Bloody Disgusting reported that Iliadis had talked to Platinum Dunes about directing The Birds, "but at this time there are no deals on the table or even talks for that matter.” So now I wonder if this line in the 24 Frames report is an extension of the previous rumors or if Iliadis has indeed continued to meet with Form and Fuller about directing the film.  Either way, I was a big fan of Iliadis’ remake of Wes Craven’s Last House on the Left and I’ll continue to anticipate whatever film he does next.  Whether it’s a remake of a classic beloved film or something else, I’ll be there.
