From Alice in Wonderland to Maleficent to the upcoming Cinderella, live-action twists on classic stories are all the rage at the moment.  However, these redos won’t just be relegated to the big screen, as the Disney Channel is getting in on the action with the upcoming TV movie Descendants.  The film reimagines the offspring of famous Disney characters like Maleficent, Jafar, and even Cruella de Vil, bringing them together in a prep school environment.  On the adult side, we have Kristen Chenoweth playing Maleficent and Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, but today Disney Channel has released a first look image of Maleficent’s daughter, Jafar’s son, Cruella’s son, and the Evil Queen’s daughter.

Hit the jump to take a look at Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart, Cameron Boyce, and Sofia Carlson in the roles, respectively.  Descendents premieres on the Disney Channel sometime in 2015.

Check out the image below.  Clockwise from bottom left, the characters are Maleficent’s daughter Mal, Jafar’s son Jay, Cruella’s son Carlos, and the Evil Queen’s daughter Evie.

It’s like someone turned the rejected concept art for Final Fantasy characters into the premise for a TV show.

    Looks awful.

  • The Flobbit

No, no, no. To everything. This looks like bad cosplay.

How have these universes combined and more importantly, if these kids are going to high school, what the hell are Jafar, Cruella, The Evil Queen, and Maleficent doing for work? I normally try to reserve my judgement until it comes out, but this just screams desperation… Disney, you have Star Wars and half of the Marvel Universe…and this is what you decide to green light?

It’s a DCOM, not an actual movie that will make it to the big screen. Disney has obligations to release a certain amount of TV movies as well as big screen films every year. Although I don’t know if this is a downgrade or upgrade for Booboo Stewart, who was a werewolf in the Twilight films.

Because if there’s one thing high school kids love doing, it’s dressing like their parents.

    I’m sooo over this crap.

Disney must print money Lmao! Already know this will be lame because of the costumes but why couldn’t they just do Young Avengers?……..Well to answer my own question they could make that a movie.

If Cruella de Vil had a kid, she would almost certainly NOT name him CARLOS. Maybe later they reveal that he’s Cruella’s maid’s kid.

    • Grayden

Clearly his name would be Coupe. And they now live in the ‘hood, where Cruella deals in black market furs to feed her coke habit (why else was she so skinny?). Forcing her son to navigate the rough waters of adolesence by himself. What a bitch…

I guess I’ll never understand Hollywood’s assumption that it needs to try to create programs specifically catered to that age group where they’re slightly too old for really childish cartoons but too young/age inappropriate for network dramas. Isn’t that kind of what sitcoms are for or the less edgy adult-oriented cartoons? I mean hell, there’s an entire generation that was weened off kids shows and onto more mature material using TGIF and other light sitcoms (ie Full House, Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Saved By the Bell, and then, maybe, classic Simpsons).

These are suppose to be villain children? Looks more like an Americanized version of The Young Ones! I’m imagining Carlos acting like Vvyian and Jay sounding just like Neil!
