Pokémon Detective Pikachu used "debut two three after Avengers: Endgame, gaining a comfortable distance from the biggest Marvel movie of all time." It wasn't very effective! Endgame's time at the number 2 position lasted exactly one (1) Friday night, as the MCU film won out its third weekend with $63 million. This number pushes Endgame to $723 million domestically, passing Avengers: Infinity War ($678 million) and Black Panther ($700 million) to become the third-highest domestic earner of all time. Before its run is over, it will more than likely also overtake Avatar's $760 million domestic, but there's still a long ways to go to top all-timer Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $936 million.

Worldwide, Endgame now sits at a mighty $2.48 billion as it eyes down Avatar's record-setting $2.78 billion.

Funny enough, Detective Pikachu's solid $58 million debut was also a record-breaker. Director Rob Letterman's Pokémon film scored the highest opening for a video game adaptation, surpassing the $47 million premiere from 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Detective Pikachu's opening numbers are right on line with expectations, just a bit of a disappointment for a film that had the potential to break out huge from predictions, like the 2014 Godzilla's $93 million opening weekend. No huge bother, though. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened right on its expected line and just kept on chugging to success over the following weeks.

Rounding out the top 3 is The Hustle, which met expectations with $13 million. Fellow newcomer Poms landed just outside the top 5 in sixth place with a disappointing $5.1 million; it's more tough news for STX Entertainment, whose UglyDolls premiered to a soft $8 million just last weekend. And then there's Tolkien, the J.R.R. Tolkien biopic starring Nicholas Hoult as the Lord of the Rings mastermind, which just snuck into the top ten with its $2.1 million debut.

Check out the weekend's top 10 estimates below, and be back here next week to see if John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has a headshot saved for Endgame.
