Fans of The Americans and, frankly, just of good TV should be watching Deutschland 83. Sundance TV’s broadcast of the German-language Cold War series stars Jonas Nay as Martin, a young East German man chosen to participate in a spy operation in West Germany (largely against his will) to infiltrate NATO operations, is fantastic fun. But as Martin struggles with the demands of his covert operations, he also comes up against the huge differences between living in an area control by the U.S.S.R., and one influenced by the West. (You can read my full review here).

Though the show is fairly even with its politics (so far), one of the most striking images from the show’s premiere was when Martin found himself in a West German grocery store, filled with glowing racks of soft drinks and more, plus food he’d never had access to before (like bananas and oranges). And in this clip from the upcoming episode “Atlantic Lion,” Martin is introduced to something else he’s never experienced east of the Iron Curtain: a Walkman. And through it, Duran Duran’s ‘Hungry Like the Wolf.’ Check out the clip below in all of its nostalgic glory:

And here’s the full synopsis for “Atlantic Lion”:

While at a NATO conference in Brussels, Martin gets his first “Romeo Assignment”: to seduce the head security analyst’s secretary, Linda.

During that time, General Edel and his new aid bond on a trip to Brussels to meet with the top brass. Lenora also appears to tell Martin that his mother needs a kidney transplant. Back in East Berlin, Annett moves in to take care of Ingrid. Meanwhile, Alex Edel’s involvement in the peace movement deepens into a real flirtation with Tischbier.

Deutschland 83 airs Wednesday nights at 11 p.m. on SundanceTV.
