DEXTER Renewed for Sixth Season

Good news for Dexter fans today as a renewal for the sixth season of the hit show seems to be imminent. While two seasons were ordered back in 2008 bringing it up to the current season five, and creators talked about making a solid five seasons and ending it; Dexter will be on the air for at least one more season after this year.
With last week’s episode of Dexter earning the second highest ratings in the show’s history, THR reports that an official announcement for the renewal is expected to come shortly. Hit the jump for some of my thoughts and more info on the renewal.
Although Dexter continues to garner record ratings and remain highly profitable, only a sixth season is being ordered for now. According to E! Online, the sixth season is not being billed as the final one and while executives at the show say a seventh is likely, the key actors’ contracts will need to be renegotiated after the sixth in order for the show to continue.
If you don’t want to know about season five of Dexter stop reading now; spoilers ahead.
While early on in the current season it looked like it could be the last, the latest episodes have seen Dexter get out of being caught; as per usual. At the end of last week’s episode, “In the Beginning,” I really was hoping that Dexter would get caught by Deb and Quinn. It seems like every episode someone comes dangerously close to finding out who he is, only to dramatically open a door and see him not be there. I love the show and I want it to go on as long as possible, but Dexter can’t avoid being caught forever; and that’s something that he has admitted multiple times.
With only two episodes left this season and Deb dangerously close to finding Lumen, it’s difficult to guess what may happen. What is clear is that Dexter has evaded being caught so many times over the seasons, and with Liddy, Quinn, Jordan Chase, and now Deb on his tail, it’s unlikely that he’ll get out of this season free and clear. While each season tends to end with someone who knows about him being killed, I’m thinking Lumen will be sticking around, and we’ll be going into season six with a major character knowing about Dexter’s “dark passenger.”

so far i dont think this season is as good as season 4 but im still enjoying it quite a bit. I predict that Liddy will die, Quinn will come close to finding out who dexter really is, Lumen will survive but move away or something, and Deb will find out about dexter.

I’m not sure, I think Lumen will die though. I can’t imagine them keeping her on as a recurring cast member. I suppose they could have her and Dexter have a big break up. I agree with Nick that Deb is going to find out about Dexter soon, maybe not this season but before the show is over… and I think she will end up accepting him.
The show will either end with Dexter dieing, him escaping the country a fugitive, or he gives up murder to start a new family.
Or he can get plastic surgery (prosthetics) and take up another life in a different part of the U.S.
Great show, but the suspension of disbelief just gets harder and harder to muster. Something tells me Deb is either going to have to kill Dexter or let him go. Quinn will think he’s got Dexter, only to get himself killed, a la Doaks.

I guessing that eventually they are going to do a time skip to when his son is older and he starts to train him in the ways of a serial killer just like what Harry did.
For me, trying to predict what is going to happen next on Dexter is like trying to predict what was going to happen on Lost each week. I have no clue, and find more comfort in just being zen about the pent up suspense the show has given me (along with the ulcer). I can’t wait to see what happens…and hope that they don’t go with the big cliffhanger ending, and opt instead to show the events that happen.
Seems like all TV shows opt for cliffhangers as they get longer in the tooth…though I’m not sure why? The older a show is, the more loyal the fanbase, so why force cliffhangers when showing the drama transpire in “real-time” is so much more powerful.
Anyone else notice how little harry is showing up these days? I wish they’d faze that out altogether and let Michael C. Hall’s acting show us his inner conflicts. The hallucinations were useful at first, but now they feel like a geeky indulgent stuck into a good drama.
Of course it’s been renewed! It’s the BEST show on Television!!
I have a feeling that Lumen will be back for the six season. She will be his Achilles’s hill, a liability that should have been taken care of on day one-or three. Love this season, didn’t realize that it had been the highest rated season, in the shows history. Personally I thought season two was crazy, I mean the guy was caught by a co-worker, then kidnapped this co-worker- then-cut up someone’s body in front of the poor man. All the while he’s bouncing around between to chicks, one of whom loved to play with fire (literally). How can Season two not have been one of the best! Season one was insane as well. This is one of the best shows on television, what more can I say.
I agree with you on season two…Its my favorite. These past two have been up there so far. Who better to play is worthy vetran nemisis than Jon Lithgow? (may spelled that wrong sorry John) I also like the addittion lumen, even if they kill or send her away soon. I think she’s going to stay around since he misses having Rita around, and shes like Rita with a dark passenger.
