Mary Elizabeth Winstead‘s performance as John McClane‘s daughter was one of the best parts of Live Free or Die Hard. In a more interesting world, the reigns of the franchise would be handed over to her character, and I have no doubt that Winstead would be able to carry an action franchise (see her work in The Thing remake). However, it’s still Bruce Willis‘ show, and the next film, A Good Day to Die Hard, will have McClane’s son Jack (Spartacus: Blood and Sand‘s Jai Courtney) tagging along for the adventure. Thankfully, Lucy McClane won’t be completely gone from the upcoming sequel.

I got to work with Bruce Willis again, which is always nice. The best, though, was that I got to work with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Willis’s daughter.
I’m not sure how big of a role Winstead has, and I’ve left out Cross’ potential spoiler of where her character will pop up [click over to his blog if you want to read when his scene takes place]. I’m guessing Winstead will play a cameo since this is the first we’ve heard of her appearing in the movie.
In other Winstead news, Sony Pictures Classics has scheduled her upcoming drama Smashed for October 12th. Winstead plays a recovering alcoholic and her performance is amazing. She’ll be seen next year in the comedy A.C.O.D. and she recently signed on to co-star in The Spectacular Now.
