Last February, former NBA player/Simon Sez star Dennis Rodman made headlines by becoming pals with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.   I’m surprised it took so long for this dynamic to become the basis for a movie, but THR is reporting that Tim Story (Ride Along) will direct Diplomats.  20th Century Fox bought the pitch, Peter Chernin will produce, and Jonathan Abrams will write the script.  Story is currently finishing up on Think Like a Man Too, and he’s also attached to direct a sequel to Ride Along.

I assume there’s no rush on Diplomats since it’s not like the relationship between Rodman and Kim is going to become less insane.  Rodman has already sung “Happy Birthday” to a man whose country is a nightmare.  If there is a rush, it will be to beat another comedy involving the North Korean dictator, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s The Interview.
